The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrator (ICSA) was founded in 1891, it has
33000 members across 72 countries worldwide. From their London office, they represent 11,000
members and 6,000 students in UK, the Republic of Ireland and internationality.
ICSA is the chartered membership and qualifying body for people working in governance, risk
and compliance including company secretaries. The graduates acquired the skills, knowledge and
experience of governance professionals through their qualifications, guidance and technical
know-how. Broad skills include law, finance, governance and compliance.

Introduction to CDSG
The Certificate for Specialists in Demand Guarantees (CSDG) has been designed to enable
demand guarantee professionals to demonstrate their knowledge and expertise in a highly
technical area of international trade.
Graduate acquired knowledge and expertise in the use of guarantees, industry rules, legislation
and the challenges relating to demand guarantees and standby credits.
CSDG was developed by the University College in partnership with the International Chamber
of Commerce (ICC).

Background
Position Title: Team Manager of HSBC Banker¡¯s Guarantee Section
? Total of 13 members under my care, from the positions of Managers to supervisors.
? Responsible for ensuring that the Teams¡¯ operations procedures comply with our Global
standard / Local Guidelines, Legal recommendation, Compliance Guidelines, ABS Bye-
Laws, Credit Guidelines, Operations and Credit Manuals and etc.
? Provide operations and effective system support to ensure efficient and smooth delivery
of products and services.
My Achievements
? Reputable for continuous and consistently excellent customer service. Despite my current
position, I continue to receive many compliments from external and internal customer for
my excellent customer service. I had been awarded a straight through 4 years EXSA
award from Silver to Gold organized by ABS.
? Performance ¨C 90% of the Guarantees operations work flows to me for signature and
approval. Despite my tight schedule in day to day operations work, I still manage to
control the Issuance and Support Team functionality and ensure their operations is up to-
date and flow through smoothly by giving guidance and support directly not only
restricted to the Associate and AM directly reporting to me but also to the staffs level, be
it a permanent staff or contract staff.
? Leadership ¨C I have the ability to get others to willingly follow. I have a clear vision
where to go as well as a firm grasp on what success look like and how to achieve it, I
share it and act upon it. I communicate effectively and articulate the vision, passionately
own the vision and relentlessly drive it to completion. I would say ¡°Action¡± is the mark
of a leader.
Elaborations / Examples of some of my achievements:
? Identify and retain talents and experienced staff members for Guarantee Team succession.
? Successfully trained my Associate and Assistant Manager to be confident speakers for
Trade Academy (Guarantees) in 2013, 2014 and 2015. In fact, both of them did not
attend any presentation training course other than having in-house practice with me.
However, through my guidance, feedback, the articles I have equipped them with to
enhance their product knowledge as well as the write up on the tips of presentation, the
presentation was great and we received many compliments from the audiences. Our
corporate customers were our audiences.
? Mobilizing staff members and work within the Guarantees team to ease operations needs
so to achieve the maximum result with scare resources.
? Openness: being able to listen to new ideas, even if they do not conform to the usual way
of thinking, I am able to suspend my judgment while listening to others¡¯ ideas, as well as
accepting new ways of doing things. I challenge status quo if the process work
implemented is not convincing and I find that it unreasonable to ask the staffs to follow
suit without understand the underlying objective.
? Exercise sense of humor to relieve tension and boredom, as well as to defuse hostility and
I use humor to energize followers.
? To retain talent and experience staffs, motivate them and give assurance so to directly
bringing our Guarantees business to greater level will be my biggest challenge.
? Contribute towards the continuous improvement of the teams by reviewing processes and
workflows and challenge status quo. Proactively recommend and implement best
practices.
? Identify the next successors for all levels and aggressively grooming them for their
potential for prudent and contingency purposes.

Ad-hoc Projects/ responsibilities:
? I was nominated by top management to attend the ISP98 for Demand Guarantees
organized by ABS.
? I work closely to the policy writer, Legal department and other stake holder to streamline,
control and improve our Global guideline on Assignability clause, compliance issues,
Finance Crime Risk, Sanction Risk and so on.
? I oversee the whole of Trade Academy process from editing the slides, training the
speaker, give opening speech and so on.
? I am the team leader to migrate / convert our manual processing our guarantee to a new
system in 2014. Task involved in data mapping, testing, re-write of Desk Instruction
Book, accounting entries, training and so on.
Current Salary S$6731 x12 months + wellness allowance S$85
+ medical benefits (S$2500 per year) + 3 months Variable bonus
