The president acts as a figurehead without real decision-making power. To effect change, students need to elect the right people to committees that can improve facilities and activities. - 3. What the role of the president isn¡¯t Have the ability to allow the sixth form a new vending machine, TV, pool table, new chairs or new computers. The role of the president is really as figure head with no real power such as the Queen or Nick Clegg. (To be honest Nick Clegg is David Cameron's whipping boy).
- 4. If you want the stuff listed earlier Then make sure the right people are elected in the various committees such as the charity committee or the sports committee. These people will be able to make your time in year 13 more memorable and enjoyable. The role of president does not allow this so if you think you can complain afterwards and get what you want through the president then you are out of luck.
- 5. What I would bring to the role The ability to strike up a conversation with visitors who I do not know and be able to represent the school professionally Have the confidence and the skill to be able to get up and talk in front of a crowd of people Can get on well with the majority of people I know and strangers
- 6. Casting your votes If you walk away from this today just being able to remember the friends reference and the reference to Nick Clegg being a whipping boy for the Tories then I have succeeded in being able to imprint something to your memory. Don¡¯t vote for your friend or for the person who would be the least suited for the role. Vote for someone who is right for the role.
