I use this presentation with my year 8 students when we are studying Atoms & Elements. It's not strictly part of the curriculum but they find it interesting anyway.
Most participants in the Back to School Night pilot study were between ages 25-44 (79%) and worked full-time (61%) or were full-time homemakers (24%). While most households had computers (87%) and internet access (82%), higher education was uncommon among participants. Evening classes were the most preferred time (56.8%) due to many primary caregivers working full-time. The study found interest in the program but noted actual participation may differ from expressed interest.
Girls gain computing skills each year by programming mobile apps to solve community problems and pitching business plans for funding from mentors. A survey found that 70% of alumnae pursued computer science in high school and college, 38% completed internships, and 28% started a club or business. The next steps are expanding the program's reach through a learning platform and strategic-level sponsorship to boost retention and support low-income communities globally.
The document discusses carbon trading markets and opportunities for growth. It provides an overview of the European Climate Exchange (ECX) and describes the growing volume and value of carbon traded on ECX between 2005-2008. It also notes President Obama's support for cap-and-trade policies and that carbon is still a young commodity market with significant potential for further growth internationally as regional carbon trading schemes expand across countries and regions. The presentation concludes by thanking the audience.
The document discusses green jobs and sustainability. It introduces speakers on green jobs and outlines what green jobs entail, including innovation to promote sustainability. It also discusses social entrepreneurship, networking, and developing a vision to make sustainability happen everywhere and make a difference to the planet.

?
Inner city parent attitude survey conducted by Robyn Hightower for 400 parents at Back to School Night at 7 Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) schools.
The document discusses the concept of ecoagriculture, which aims to enhance rural livelihoods and sustainable food production while also conserving biodiversity and ecosystem services. It outlines the vision and mission of Ecoagriculture Partners, which is to scale up ecoagriculture approaches worldwide by catalyzing strategic connections and dialogue among stakeholders. Some of the strategic goals are to understand ecoagriculture through documentation and analysis, build capacity of innovators, and achieve policy changes that advance ecoagriculture. Challenges discussed include designing carbon projects that benefit local knowledge and leverage sustainable production systems.
To improve our infrastructure and resource allocation abilities, we have developed an information visualization tool that helps you helps users compare LAUSD schools and see which ones are performing well, which ones are struggling, which would make strong long-term partners and which ones need extra resources.
We currently have data only for LA, but plan to include data for all large metros wherever Iridescent plans to expand to.
You can access a video and some slides showcasing how to use the interactive tool to identify high and low performing schools from our website (www.IridescentLearning.org), under "Impact" and "USN Map Project".
The slides have screenshots of different combinations of variables and I have marked a bunch of high and low performing schools (including charter schools).
