Vincent de Keijzer & Patricia Deiser, Down to Earth. Social Media and Institu...museums and the webA presentation from Museums and the Web 2009 http://www.archimuse.com/mw2009/
Abstract: The Gemeentemuseum in The Hague is a museum for contemporary art and the applied arts. “Down To Earth” presents a case study of the museum’s recent project, a five-month survey, in which various staff members were interviewed about their knowledge, level of participation, attitude and opinion regarding new social media and community centered projects. Those interviewed included directors; curators; some collections workers, including restorers; some of those involved in documentation, in education, in exhibitions, in ICT; some marketing staff and some in public relations.
The data collected was used to identify five different user types: lecturers; educators; presenters; interactors and connectors. On the basis of these types, a viable and differentiated approach to social media could be planned and put into practice. Central to this approach is a focus on the development of sustainable solutions that fit the museum and its staff. The paper shows how a rather traditional, conservative museum can create its own strategies for dealing with new media in this way.
CARING FOR CONCRETE slideshowAnthony MoralesThis document discusses caring for concrete in cold and hot weather conditions. In cold weather, concrete must be protected from freezing for the first 24 hours to prevent damage. Methods like insulating blankets and polyethylene sheeting can retain heat and moisture. In hot weather, cooling aggregates and water and protecting poured surfaces is important. A higher water-cement ratio may be needed to prevent cracking from rapid setting and moisture loss. Proper curing and protecting concrete from temperature extremes is key to ensuring strength and quality.

00-Photo Essaymccormick102The document analyzes a photo depicting a dead man hanging from the arm of the Statue of Liberty. It notes three key elements: the smoky sky symbolizing America's decline in morals, the dead man who likely killed himself as a metaphor for "give me freedom or give me death," and the disproportionate sizes representing how America only notices struggles when drastic acts occur.

Survivormccormick102A bomb had rendered the outside world uninhabitable except for one bunker that could sustain four people. As an assignment, students had to consider the supplies and each person's characteristics to decide which four would be spared in the bunker, while the others would be sent to their deaths. While the assignment was meant to encourage critical thinking, the student believes it is difficult to think critically in a group setting as the focus becomes pleasing others and reaching a group decision, rather than making an individual conclusion.

Geophysics in ArchaeologyAdam O'NeillThis document provides a summary of geophysical surveys conducted at archaeological sites around the world in 3 sentences or less:
The document outlines geophysical surveys, including ground penetrating radar, electrical resistivity, and magnetometry, that have been used at sites in Japan, China, Central America, and Pompeii, Italy to identify buried structures and artifacts before and after excavation. Various frequencies of GPR and combination of methods provided clear images of walls, buildings, and objects that helped guide archaeological excavations. The surveys demonstrated the value of geophysics for non-invasive archaeological prospection and interpretation of buried archaeological features.
Are you remotely agile? SGFLA 2016Mark KilbyThe document discusses strategies for implementing agile practices in fully distributed teams. It suggests that distributed agile is possible if teams establish overlapping collaboration times, use shared task boards and progress tracking, keep multiple communication channels open at all times, and intentionally build social connections despite working remotely. The key is applying agile principles like collaboration, communication, and community while working in a distributed manner.

Sjogren Syndrome- a complex CNS disease Diana GirnitaThis document discusses central nervous system involvement in Sjögren's syndrome. It begins with a brief history of Sjögren's syndrome and then discusses prevalence of central nervous system manifestations, which range from 10-60% in primary Sjögren's syndrome. Common central nervous system manifestations include headaches, cognitive deficits, mood disorders, spinal cord involvement, optic neuritis, and focal or multifocal brain lesions. Testing such as CSF analysis, MRI, EEG, and cerebral angiography can provide additional information, though findings may be nonspecific. Autoantibodies such as anti-Ro/SSA antibodies may have prognostic value in assessing central nervous system disease severity in Sjögren's syndrome patients.
