Alan Turing arguably wrote the first paper on formal methods 75 years ago. Since then, there have been claims and counterclaims about formal methods. Tool development has been slow but aided by Moore¡¯s Law with the increasing power of computers. Although formal methods are not widespread in practical usage at a heavyweight level, their influence as crept into software engineering practice to the extent that they are no longer necessarily called formal methods in their use. In addition, in areas where safety and security are important, with the increasing use of computers in such applications, formal methods are a viable way to improve the reliability of such software-based systems. Their use in hardware where a mistake can be very costly is also important. This talk explores the journey of formal methods to the present day and speculates on future directions.

- 2. Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument located in the English county of Wiltshire. It is composed of earthworks surrounding a circular setting of large standing stones. It was erected around 2500 BC.
- 3. Stonehenge complete gives the derivation of the name Stonehenge as coming from the old English words ¡°stan¡± meaning ¡°stone¡± and either ¡°hencg¡± meaning ¡°hinge¡± or ¡°hen¡± meaning ¡°hang¡± or ¡°gallows¡± or ¡°instrument of torture¡±. Stonehenge was produced by a culture that left no written records. There are a lot of multiple theories, but they are often called the ¡° mystery of Stonehenge¡±.
- 4. Stonehenge consists of large stone blocks arranged in four concentric circles.The exterior consists of large rectangular stones of which only seven are now in place. Within this outer row there is another circle of smaller blocks of blue sandstone. It contains a horseshoe-shaped structure built with stones of sandstone of the same colour. And inside there is a slab of micaceous sandstone known as ¡°the altar¡±.
- 5. The Stonehenge can only be found 30 km away in Marlborough Downs. The stones can weigh about 45 tonnes and to transport them is a mystery. In the circumference drawn by the Stonehenge can be found remains of 50 holes marked with lime suggesting they were used for sacrifices and ceremonies to honor their gods.
