Assignment related to Structure analysis to determine the reactions and to draw axial force, shear force and bending moment diagrams for the members of statically indeterminate frames by moment distribution method
The document provides an outline for a presentation on the moment distribution method for structural analysis. It includes:
- An introduction to the moment distribution method and its use for analyzing statically indeterminate beams and frames.
- Definitions of important terms used in the method like stiffness, carry over factor, and distribution factor.
- Sign conventions for support moments, member rotations, and sinking of supports.
- Expressions for fixed end moments under different load cases including centric loading, eccentric loading, uniform loads, support rotations, and sinking of supports.
- Examples of applying the method to a simply supported beam and fixed supported beam with sinking support.
This document discusses the moment distribution method for analyzing statically indeterminate structures. It begins with an introduction of the method developed by Prof. Hardy Cross in 1930. Important terms are defined such as stiffness, carry over factor, and distribution factor. Fixed end moments are explained for various load cases like centric loading, eccentric loading, uniform distributed load, and uniform varying load. Two examples are provided - a simply supported beam and a two story building analyzed using the moment distribution method.
The moment distribution method can be used to analyze statically indeterminate beams and frames. It involves solving the linear equations obtained in the slope-deflection method through successive approximations. The key aspects of the method are:
1. Stiffness factor is defined as the moment required to produce a unit rotation at a point, and is used to relate moments and rotations.
2. Carry-over factor is the ratio of the moment induced at the far end of a propped cantilever to the moment applied at the near end.
3. Distribution factor is the ratio of a member's stiffness factor to the sum of stiffnesses of members meeting at a joint, and is used to distribute an
The document outlines the moment distribution method of structural analysis, detailing calculations for member stiffness factors, joint stiffness factors, and distribution factors. It includes examples of applying this method to analyze beams and frames, assessing reactions at supports, and generating shear and bending moment diagrams. Additionally, it provides formulas for fixed-end moments and adjustments for factors such as sidesway in frames.
This document provides an overview of the slope deflection method for analyzing statically indeterminate structures. It describes that the slope deflection method was developed in 1914 and can be used to analyze beams and frames. Key assumptions of the method are that joints are rigid and distortions from axial/shear stresses are neglected. The document outlines the application, sign convention, procedure, slope deflection equations, and provides examples for analyzing beams and frames using this method.
This document contains 10 questions about drawing shear, moment and axial force diagrams for determinate frames with various support conditions. For each question, students are asked to draw the diagrams for each frame member and the elastic curve. The frames have different connections at their supports including pin, roller, and hinged and the documents provides the conditions for each question.
