ReLC  June 19 2008 Digital revolution - 17 out of 18 schools in rollout have gone apple  need more information as to how this will be financially reconciled Wireless roleout  cisco systems won tender  similar to a motel model  piloting in two large secondary schools during next holiday (pre wyd)  looking at 95% coverage of learning spaces  coverage is not a problem compared to density (number of students given access)  40 access points per school  physical location can be difficult  support model  3 tiers  inschool person fulltime ict, 3rd party contractor, regional helpdesk person  more discussion needs to occur.  all networks will be commercial grade when the roleout is complete Aust Cath Network  discussions ongoing  looking at positive results re bandwidth but will be some time away CENet & myinternet  may extend product one extra year Licence  apple  windows across the school  one school indicated a change of thought in his school towards mac only apps such as Neo-Office. Current licencing - $400 for Vista  need a new model with lower cost  Milton in discussion with Microsoft  hold off on licences for now All schools can order Apple laptops at reduced rate, but must be done through Leichhardt  now two providers  Mac1 and Computers Now Professional learning  archdiocesan working party  systemic approach based in regions and schools Software in schools  should we be looking at centralisation of purchasing?  Issues around licensing, upgrading  questions around reporting programs and SAS  secondary schools not happy with the functionality of these programs and are developing their own solutions to enable staff to access data when they need it. Milton responded that Human Edge is the way forward, but bandwidth remains a problem.  More discussion is needed. @
iLE@RN Projects IWB - SmartBoard To challenge existing teacher pedagogical methods by developing ways to effectively introduce Smartboards into daily use. St. Mary's, Concord Lego Robotics Stage 2 Science and Technology - communication and literacy skills and Stage 3 Maths - problem solving and numerical skills. St. Brendan's, Annandale Apple - GarageBand The students in Stage 3 respond to their Confirmation preparation by producing a podcast which will be part of the outcomes of this course. St. Charles, Ryde Webcasting  Skype, Ning "Connected Classrooms" will focus on some of the issues around the transition of students from Stage 3 to Stage 4.  Students from both schools will work on a common focus in HSIE around Government and the Structure of a Society. Domremy, Fivedock and All Hallows, Fivedock. Lego Robotics To develop Mathematic skills, concepts and literacies. St. Brigid's, Marrickville Apple - GarageBand Year 4 students will improve and enhance their Literacy learning, specifically in the writing, communication and presentation of information. They will engage in inquiry-based learning tasks leading to deeper thinking about and understanding of the issues relating to the British Colonisation of Australia and their effect on our society today. Holy Spirit, North Ryde IWB - Smartboard Students in the Stage 3 and Year 4 classrooms will develop their literacy skills through a differentiated curriculum through the explicit teaching of talking, listening, reading and writing. St Ambrose, Concord West Apple  GarageBand  & iMovie An emphasis on visual literacy skills across all KLAs. Students will be expected to present responses to learning in a variety of formats. All Hallows, Fivedock Apple  GarageBand  & iMovie The students will produce a musical score using Garage Band. This will involve the design, composition and performance of their own music which will be in response to a film soundtrack required for a movie they have made in iMovie.  OLQP Gladesville Video storytelling To further develop, for both students and teachers, the connection between visual literacy, reading comprehension and adaptation of narrative and poetry texts and to embed the use of ICT as a learning tool within the English program.
