ï‚ž As the superintendent of Tamalpais Union High School District, Laurie Kimbrel is responsible for overseeing the education of approximately 4,200 students. Working with 435 staff members, she diligently seeks to meet the academic and social needs of her district. Recently, Laurie Kimbrel helped the district by increasing student access to honors and Advanced Placement (AP) courses. AP courses offer a myriad of benefits to hundreds of thousands of students each year. Geared specifically toward students who want to earn college credit, AP courses help high schoolers stand out on their college applications.
ï‚ž By taking AP courses and passing the related exams, students are able to earn college credit before setting foot on a college campus. Getting these credits early can significantly pare down college costs. For students who have already settled on a college major, AP credit can eliminate the need for introductory classes that demand the time, money, and effort of many college freshmen. Lastly, taking AP courses in high school helps students hone the skills they will need to succeed in their college courses. AP courses also help students develop confidence, time management skills, and problem-solving abilities.
