The lesson looks at simplicity as a spiritual discipline and encourages us to examine our priorities. How does seeking the kingdom first simplify our lives? What are the distractions that get in the way.
How do we integrate our learning about spiritual disciplines with our spiritual community? How do activities that seem deeply personal affect how we function in our community?
The document discusses how God has acted throughout history to create and unite a family (the church) to represent Him to the world. It emphasizes that within the church, each individual is uniquely gifted yet still part of one body through the unifying power of the Holy Spirit. Effective ministry requires that individuals sacrifice their own interests for the unity of the greater body in representing Christ.
God has acted throughout history to produce a family who will represent Him to the world. This family is called to love God, love others, and love one another as Jesus demonstrated through serving and sacrificing for others. The essence of God's love is defined as being patient, kind, trusting, hopeful and unselfish. Members of God's family are meant to passionately pursue others and allow others to pursue them with this same love of Christ.
The document provides an overview of community and spiritual formation. It discusses how God created community to be good, but it became broken by sin. Jesus came to enact a new creation through the power of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit forms individuals into the image of Christ within community, where people love and support one another. A spiritual community relieves suffering, redeems sins, and continues Christ's mission through the power of the Holy Spirit working in them.
This document contains a prayer, excerpts from the Gospel of John, and commentary on the concepts of transcendence and immanence in relation to God. The Gospel of John describes Jesus as the Word (Logos) who was with God in the beginning and through whom all things were created. As the Word, Jesus reveals God and gives grace and truth to those who believe in him. The commentators discuss how Jesus, as both fully God and fully human, reveals both the transcendence and immanence of God.
This prayer asks God to provide care and mercy for all of creation, as God provided a sign of love through Jesus Christ. It offers prayers for God's world, confident in God's care and mercy, just as Joseph believed the message of an angel. It closes with "Amen."
This document contains a prayer, passages from the Bible, and commentary on the concept of sin and God's mission. It discusses that 1) the situation created by sin and death is dire, 2) God's mission is universal restoration for all people, and 3) God is motivated by beautiful, self-sacrificial love seen in sending Jesus to save the world and bring eternal life to all who believe in him.
This document discusses the motivations and importance of Christian service. It outlines five main motivations for serving: obedience to God, gratitude for God's blessings, forgiveness of sins, humility like Jesus, and love for God. True service is characterized by indifference to rewards or tasks, willingness to serve hiddenly or unappreciated, and making service a lifestyle rather than temporary acts. The document also addresses reasons people may avoid serving like lack of adventure or pride, and consequences if the church lacks servants. It provides tips for developing a servant's heart like recognizing one's own weakness and surrendering to God's will.
The document discusses the theme of love from several passages in the Bible. It emphasizes that God is love, and that those who abide in God must love one another. For believers to truly know and experience God's love, they must reciprocate that love by loving their fellow brothers and sisters, even those they have not seen. Loving one another is a core commandment for those who claim to love God.
A man was blind from birth but finds light through Jesus. The document discusses how sin blinds all people to the truth but Jesus can cure any problem and bring light to lives. It encourages readers to reflect on how Jesus has brought light to their own lives and how they can help bring light to others.

Jesus came to Earth to show God's love for humanity and save them. He cared for the sick, poor, and those who were unkind to Him. By inviting Jesus into our hearts, we can know God's love and have eternal life in Heaven. Jesus is the only way to receive salvation and God's gift of eternal life.
This document discusses the kingdom of God and what Jesus brought to earth. It encourages accepting not just Jesus but the full gift of what he offers, which is the kingdom itself. This kingdom is described as righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. It emphasizes that many Christians focus on Jesus as the wrapping or container but not the full gift inside, which is authority and power to rule. The document urges taking a bold step to not just accept Jesus as the way but to fully step into what the kingdom offers.

God created the world in six days according to the biblical account. On each day God created a different aspect of the world: light, sky, land, plants, stars, animals, and finally humans who were made in God's image. On the seventh day God rested, establishing the Sabbath. The creation story conveys that God created the world out of nothing, demonstrating God's power. Humans are given stewardship over creation, and are tasked with caring for the world and respecting all people as made in God's image. The Sabbath is meant to be a day of rest and worship of God to honor God's work in creation.

powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I
have all faith,油so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am
nothing.油If I give away all I have, and油if I deliver up my body to be
burned,油but have not love, I gain nothing.
1 Corinthians 13
9. Simplicity is a matter of internal priority.
Relationships
Time
Money
Career
Family
12. Warning: The simple life is not a call to abandon all possessions,
be deprived or deprive others God made the earth to be enjoyed!
The simple life helps us understand the value of possessions
and not desire them
Phil. 4:12 being content with much and with little.
The Lord provides us with what we need The simple life is not
about devising a list of things all people can and cannot have
legalism
13. The spiritual discipline of simplicity is to intentionally shed
the things of this earth that are keeping you from fully
experiencing the life God desires for you. What are the
things entangling you, holding you back?
What are the practical ways that know you can seek the
Kingdom
fi
rst in your life right now?
14. What am I holding to?
What am I paying attention to?
What has been put into the place where God should be?
What has become an inordinate attachment or addiction?
Simplicity starts with the interrogation of ourselves and what has
taken hold.
15. Simplicity is letting go so that you can make more room in
your life for God. Its creating margin and space in your life
to breathe more freely and loose the chains of the world.
