- 4. The day of the interviewDress smartly
- 5. Females: wear a dark colored suit, dark stockings, sparse make up and no jewelry
- 6. Males: dark suit, suitable tie, dark socks and shoes
- 7. Perfume: go easy or without
- 8. The interviewers will only ask you general questions about yourselfInterviewsYou might be given 1 or 2 medical scenarios and asked how you would respond to them- don’t panic, they’re usually easy questions and are only asked to make sure you are a safe and rational doctor… a lot of the interviews do not have medical questions!Most of programs will ask ethical questions:eg Conflicts!
- 9. The interviewGenerally its same for medicine, Pediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynecology.The structure of the interview may vary between specialities and collegesThe interview begins once you step foot in secretary office!

- 11. Things to doShake hands! Eye contact AND Body language!Show confidence and stay relaxed!Show modesty, interest, punctuality and fluency.Kind personality Don’t clam up!
- 12. Things you should NOT do!Hostile answers or potentially hostile answersOne word answersRacist/sexist acts or behavioursArroganceSuck up!Criticising your colleagues/country!Being quite, shy, hesitant.Do not show any signs of homesickness!
- 13. What do the interviewers want to hear?Fluent, coherent EnglishPersonality: someone easy to work with and live with!Ethics and safetyRemember: You are being placed on a show- It’s not only what you say, but how you say it that matters!
- 14. Being a female…Expect to be asked about your spouse/children… same for married guys!What they want to know is: will you be able to raise a family and still keep up with the program? Or in other words… you are not someone who is likely to leave the program!If you’ve studied abroad: Big plus point
- 15. Being a Muslim…Do you have any problem working/interacting with males?If you’re wearing Hijab- Will you scrub in front of male doctors?The Jewish community makes up a big part of many cities- Do you have any problem with that?
- 17. Personal experience, McGill:Two rounds of interviews:The first had a panel of 3  1 faculty staff member and 2 residents.The second round had 2 faculty staff members and 4 residents.Past years have had 3 rounds of interviews.
- 18. After the inteviewÌýSend thank you letters/ emails.Emphasize exactly what you liked about the program.Call or email residents and talk further.
