According to photographer Jeff Kravitz, who snapped a shot of the moment, the officer on duty came up to the rapper and told him something along the lines of ¡°do not light that in my face again or we will take a ride downtown¡±. Although Las Vegas, like Khalifa¡¯s current residence of Los Angeles, allows marijuana to be smoked for medicinal purposes, the officer clearly was not having it. Since moving to the United States earlier this year, identical twins Andrew and Brian Chaplin have hit the ground running with new material, having just dropped the music video for their latest single I Can¡¯t Sleep, which was shot in LA. I Can¡¯t Sleep boasts an edgy urban feel with mildly used new age auto-tune elements that speak to the lethargic flow contained in the songs theme. Describing their one-of-a-kind sound as urban/dance, Andrew said: ¡°We¡¯ve always been known for experimenting with our pro- ductions and we¡¯ve combined a lot of tribal sounding percussion to bring back the kind of music we grew up listening to.¡± Speak- ing on conceptualising the catchy hook, Brian adds: ¡°We literally couldn¡¯t sleep, and we were up having drinks one night playing the beat over and over again try- ing to come up with a hook. Even- tually, we realised we were trying to write everything except what we were feeling at that moment and the hook pretty much wrote itself from there.¡± TRACE reached out to the smouldering siblings for an exclusive Q&A. What led you to take the auto-tune synthesiser approach in the production of the track? We hardly ever use it, but we figured that it would be perfect for this track because we wanted it to be in falsetto and sound quite jarring, something that would catch your attention. Which LA locations did you visit throughout produc- tion? We shot at a variety of locations including Griffith Observatory. The more organic scenes were filmed at Runyon Canyon and Joshua Tree National Park. The warehouse shots were very last minute and we filmed those in downtown LA¡¯s industrial land. What was your favourite scene/location? Joshua Tree National Park was definitely the most fun location because we had to take quite a road trip to get there and the place itself is absolutely amazing, especially early in the morning when were filming. Just how important is the SA flag scene? We felt it was very important. We¡¯ve made this move to the States and filmed the video in its entirety in LA and outlying areas, but wanted to make it very clear where we¡¯re from and what we represent. What memorable behind- the-scenes moments did you have throughout the production? We got one hell of a speeding ticket on the way back from Joshua Tree, those cops don¡¯t take kindly to out-of-towners. Who¡¯d you like to collabo- rate with in future pro- jects? Locally we¡¯d still like to do some- thing with AKA, and over on this side, we¡¯d love to co-produce with Diplo and have someone like Drake or Earl Sweatshirt on it. To date, what has been your craziest fan/groupie encounter? We once jumped off stage at a show to touch everyone¡¯s hands, and the whole crowd just surged forward and ended up break- ing the barrier down, leaving us stuck underneath until security guards rushed to our rescue ¨C it was memorable!
