The SWWE Regional Network were very pleased to welcome Aalok Sonawala, Head of PMO, National Programmes, Rider Levett Bucknall on 26 February, to BAWA for our first face to face event of 2025. Aalok is a member of APMs Thames Valley Regional Network and also speaks to members of APMs PMO Interest Network, which aims to facilitate collaboration and learning, offer unbiased advice and guidance.
Tonight, Aalok planned to discuss the importance of a PMO within project-based organisations, the different types of PMO and their key elements, PMO governance and centres of excellence.
PMOs within an organisation can be centralised, hub and spoke with a central PMO with satellite PMOs globally, or embedded within projects. The appropriate structure will be determined by the specific business needs of the organisation. The PMO sits above PM delivery and the supply chain delivery teams.

- 2. THE GOAL FROM THE GLOBAL ACTION LIST THAT RESONATES WITH MY INTERESTS AND THE WORK I MIGHT BEST BE PREPARED TO DO IS Goal # 1 Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
- 3. Q # 1 Why does it resonate for you? I have witnessed way too many people in different towns around the Puget Sound and Seattle area. In my mind its something impossible to ignore or not be touched by it. Back in my country, I have seen my own family living in poverty; worried about having food on a plate and somewhere to live as the rent due date came closer Poverty is not only seen in the lower class, but also in middle-working class as the living cost increases, yet salaries do not.
- 4. Q # 2 How can your interest be applied locally? I think there is a lot we as a community can do to fight poverty locally 1. Realize poverty is within our local society 2. Promote awareness 3. Figure out what you can do to help 4. Donate 5. Fundraise 6. Use social media to spread the word! 7. Volunteer
- 5. Q # 3 Where can you make the greatest contribution? I currently work at a juvenile detention center for the state of Washington. I work with kids that come from all sorts of backgrounds. The way I can see myself making a contribution to fight poverty is to educate these young kids about the issue itself, guide them in a way to be successful and have a job and continue their education, take them on trips to help feed the homeless or work a few hours at a food bank. I personally am grateful for the times I am able to make donations to charity and feed and care for the homeless in a parish ministry I am part of. Little changes may have a great impact on someone in need. The gratitude in their faces makes all small efforts seem enormous
- 6. Q # 4 Is there a feature of social media that can be uniquely applied to this goal? I think any social media is a great tool to educate and bring awareness of any issue to other people. Social media can also be a great tool to bring the community to work together in service projects as a social movement. Something very popular in social media are sponsorships to support an event or organization though the provision of their products and services
