Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890) was a post-Impressionist painter whose work had a far-reaching influence. He produced over 900 paintings and 800 letters in his lifetime. Van Gogh struggled to find work and battled mental illness, cutting off part of his ear at one point. He shot and killed himself at age 37 in Auvers, France. Despite living over 115 years ago, Van Gogh's artwork is still widely influential in depicting beauty, individuality, and innovative artistic styles.
