The Texas Conference voted to cultivate
growing, fruitful and missional congregations.
They voted to create a position for the work
of facilitating vital congregations within our
Conference. The position of Director of Vital
Congregations was created for this purpose.
Vital Congregation Initiative
Vital Congregation Initiative
This is accomplished through Lay Leadership
Development (LLD) and Pastoral Leadership
Development (PLD). Clergy and laity will
covenant together as leadership. Our goal is
to develop passion, trust, knowledge and
skills among laity and clergy that will prepare
and empower them to lead their
congregations to fulfill Gods plan.
Vital Congregation Initiative
A lay leader commented:
  What we need for our church is a
healthy lifestyle rather than a fad diet.
Our purpose is to help congregations across our
Conference take necessary steps to that healthy
lifestyle. We can best accomplish that by investing our
resources and perfecting two proven facilitation models
rather than trying to provide expertise, funding and
trained facilitators for many models. The models chosen
by the office of Vital Congregations have proven fruitful
across the United States.
What If We Choose a Different
              Model?
Many good models can help a congregation move
to greater vitality. Of course, we want you to work
with one proven and facilitated. If you choose a
different model we hope you will implement all
three essentials that will enhance your potential.
We also hope you will involve the office of Vital
Congregations at some level so that we can learn
from one another and make that learning available
to others.

1. Transform Lay and Clergy Leaders by
beginning the process of Lay and Clergy
Leadership Development.

2. Invest in the Young by engaging them in
Lay Leadership Development (next
generation leaders) and strategic planning.

3. Continue the process, resulting in the
Growth of Fruitful Congregations (Vital
Congregations).
Take The First Step!
 If you are a pastor, contact your District
  Superintendent to discuss the possibility of
  your congregation moving toward a system of
  increased and sustainable vitality.
 If you are a lay person, contact your pastor and
  discuss your congregations readiness to engage
  in a process that will move you to greater
  vitality.
 Regardless of the model you choose, be sure to
  develop a leadership team and engage a coach.
