The World Bank Group has supported Romania through 54 projects totaling $5.5 billion from 1991-2008, focusing on health, social protection, education, and public administration. Currently the World Bank portfolio in Romania consists of 16 active projects totaling $1.779 billion, with objectives to support Romania in dealing with the economic crisis and broadening reforms for sustainable growth through advisory, analytical, and development policy activities. One example project is the $91 million Rural Education Project from 2003-2009 which aimed to improve rural education access and quality.
