Common Training terms and their meanings
Training/Trained: This signifies when an individual has completed a course or a series
of course. Typically when you are trained it is a one time event.
Qualification/Qualified: Qualification refers to passing an examination or assessment,
especially one conferring status as a recognized practitioner of a profession or activity.
Certification/Certified: Certification verifies that an individual or organization has
achieved a certain level of compliance within a particular area. It indicates they have
completed the necessary steps to receive a specific designation. Typically certification
is revisited at regular intervals. Testing is usually required but sometimes can be done
via audit.
Credentialed: Is the formal recognition of an individuals attainment of measurable
technical or occupational skills. These technical or occupational skills are generally
based on standards developed or endorsed by an Accreditation body.
Accreditation/Accredited: Accreditation is a formal, third party recognition of
competence to perform specific tasks.
