1) The document discusses Paul encouraging the Corinthians to follow the example of generosity set by the Macedonian churches. The Macedonians gave abundantly from their poverty, giving themselves to God first.
2) Paul urges the Corinthians to excel in their giving as they excelled in other spiritual gifts like faith. He cites Jesus as the ultimate example of sacrificial giving.
3) The document promises that those who sow bountifully will reap bountifully from God, both materially and spiritually. Generous giving results in thanksgiving to God and benefits both giver and receiver.
The document discusses gratitude and generosity. It contains four Bible passages about showing gratitude to God. The passages discuss how those who are forgiven show great love and gratitude. They are reminded that God gives wealth so they should not rely on their own power. Generous giving results in thanksgiving to God and supplies the needs of others. Everything created by God is good if received with thanksgiving. The document asks why a church needs money in relation to the topic of gratitude.
The document discusses principles for Christians regarding their collection and giving. It outlines that Christians should set aside part of their finances every week to support the church and those in need. Christians should give willingly according to their means and show the proof of their love through generous giving. God loves cheerful, liberal givers who give purposefully without reluctance.
The document discusses 2 Corinthians 9:6-15, which talks about how God rewards generous giving. It states that those who sow generously will reap generously (v.6) and God loves a cheerful giver (v.7). God is able to bless believers with more than enough so they can be generous and help others (vv. 8-11). Through believers' generosity, many will thank God (vv. 12-15).
This document discusses the concept of repentance from passages in the Bible. It describes how the people listening to Peter's sermon in Acts 2 were cut to the heart when they realized they had crucified Jesus. Peter told them to repent. The document explains that repentance means turning away from sin and toward God, and that God offers his mercy and salvation through repentance to all people. It encourages readers to undergo an ongoing transformation by renewing their minds according to God's will.
This document provides an overview of a 2-week series called "Living The Blessed Life" taught by David Thompson. Week 1 focuses on Lordship and Generosity, while Week 2 covers Practical Stewardship and Generosity. The document discusses biblical principles of generosity, including that we are stewards not owners of what God provides. It encourages tithing as a starting point and promises God will bless the generous. The final week will share a story called "Miracle in Franklin" and discuss practical application.
Have you heard the fairy tale of the "Little Red Hen?" In this tale, the hen seeks help to being food to the barnyard but none of her friends will help. She goes out alone and finds the wheat, plants it, tends to it, cuts it, has it milled and bakes the cake. After the cake is made, everyone wants a piece but she says no! Is this how God treats us?
Using our talents to serve God brings abundance and glorifies Him. The Bible teaches that we should serve others with the strength God provides so that He may be praised. Jesus came not to be served but to serve and give His life for others. When we serve others, we serve God.
This document contains several Bible passages that discuss humanity's creation in God's image, marriage relationships, and the importance of love. The passages describe how God created humans as male and female and blessed them. They advise wives to submit to their husbands as the church submits to Christ, and husbands to love their wives as Christ loves the church. Additional passages encourage modest and godly behavior and discuss beauty, love, and obedience to God.
This document discusses the concept of unity and oneness in Christianity. It provides several Bible verses that talk about how Christians are one body through baptism by the Holy Spirit, there should be no divisions like denominations in the church, and that in Christ there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, slave and free, male and female, or other divisions as all are one. The document emphasizes that as Christians we should see ourselves as one body, one church, one people united in Jesus beyond political, racial, or other divisions.
The document discusses the concept of believers being a royal priesthood based on passages from the Bible. It notes that believers have been made kings and priests by God and are called to offer up spiritual sacrifices as living stones in God's spiritual house. As God's chosen people, believers have priestly privilege in being redeemed and purified by Christ, priestly access to God through the blood of Christ and the Holy Spirit, and a priestly function to show God's praises and declare their fellowship with God and Christ. The overall message is that all believers have the highest honor, calling, and work as priests of God.
The document discusses the biblical concept of tithing, which is giving 10% of one's income to the church. It outlines that there are committed, uncommitted, and uninformed tithers. It discusses how people should tithe on any income source like jobs, investments, gifts, and settlements. Borrowed money is not tithed on. Tithing should be systematic, sacrificial, and spontaneous. The widow who gave her last two coins in the temple gave the most because she gave sacrificially from her poverty.
The document discusses generosity and giving based on passages from 2 Corinthians 8. It provides a model for generosity, noting that Christians in Macedonia gave sacrificially beyond their means out of their overflowing joy. Their generosity came from giving themselves to God first. Christians are called to excel in generosity as God gave generously through Christ's poverty. Generosity aims for equality, with plenty meeting needs so that all have enough.
The document discusses tithing in the New Testament. It examines passages that directly reference tithing, including Matthew 23:23, Luke 18:9-14, and Hebrews 7:1-10. For each passage, the document analyzes the context and intent, and concludes that none of these passages command tithing for Christians or have tithing as their primary subject. The document finds that while tithing is mentioned in some contexts, these passages alone do not provide a basis for requiring tithing under the New Covenant.
The document discusses the concept of being "called" in the Bible. It provides several verses from the New Testament where the word "call" is used in reference to God summoning or inviting people to salvation. It also discusses the original Greek meanings of "a call" as getting someone's attention, a summons such as to court, or an invitation such as to a feast. The document emphasizes that the regular New Testament meaning of "call" refers to a religious summons or invitation from God.

This document discusses the benefits of being a follower of Christ. It begins by asking about early memories of God and what initially motivated following Christ. It then lists several benefits according to passages from Psalms and Romans, including forgiveness of sins, healing from diseases, redemption from death, and God's steadfast love. Corinthians notes that God has prepared blessings for those who love him that are beyond human understanding. Romans affirms that since God gave his son for humanity, he will also graciously provide all things. Genesis shares God's promise to Abram to make him a great nation and bless those who bless him.
After reading God's law, the people of Israel decided to make a covenant with God to be faithful. 84 leaders signed the covenant, committing the people to obey God's law, observe the Sabbath, care for the poor, and support the Temple services. This covenant continued God's everlasting covenant with humanity for restoration of relationship through obedience.
The document discusses the hierarchy of the Catholic Church, focusing on the roles and authority of the apostles. It explains that Jesus gave the 12 apostles three powers: to announce the Good News, celebrate worship of the New Covenant, and lead God's people. It describes Peter as having primacy among the apostles and their successors and collaborators continuing their work. The faithful are strengthened by following the leadership of the apostles and their successors.

The word of God has many things to say about money and giving. It is said that a persons understanding of and relationship with money tells a great deal about that person. Somebody said that ones own relationship to money is one of the greatest tests of ones spiritual maturity. Perhaps it can be said that a persons maturity is well reflected in his/her giving. We serve a God who is a magnificent Giver (Jms.1.17). Gods greatest gift to us is His Son (John 3.16). And in Him God the Father freely gives to us all that we need abundantly (Rom. 8.32). The church of the Lord Jesus Christ was known by the interpersonal relationships its members had with one another. And this gave way to great giving (Acts. 4.32) among other things. Lets see a little deeper into this aspect of Christian giving.
While we talk about giving, we talk of three things giving to God in the first place and keeping all things available to Him, giving to Gods people and giving to people outside the church. Our love for the Lord should result in loving our fellow men and this love should result in giving. The word of God talks about all the three aspects of giving. Historic Christianity is full of innumerable examples of Christian giving which impacted the contemporary society and brought many to the Lord. Let us therefore think of the aspect of giving for a while.
1) 1 Corinthians 16 discusses the collection for the saints in Jerusalem that Paul had instructed the churches in Galatia to take up, instructing the Corinthians to set aside funds each week so there would be enough when he arrived.
2) 1 Corinthians 9 uses examples from the Old Testament and law of Moses to argue that those who minister spiritual things have a right to material support from those being ministered to, just as soldiers, farmers, shepherds, and priests received support.
3) The document discusses the various types of offerings in the Old Testament like burnt, sin, trespass, and peace offerings and explains that the purpose of these offerings was atonement, fellowship with God, worship, and obligation

This document outlines seven areas of life that a holistic church called CLHCC United promotes growth and development in: 1) Spiritual relationship with God, 2) Christlike character, 3) Good relationships, 4) Healthy body/mind/emotions, 5) Good financial management skills, 6) Excellence in work/field, and 7) Soul-winning and making disciples. It then provides biblical support for five things God wants to see in people to prosper them: obedience, humility, generosity, balanced hard work, and prayerfulness.
This document provides encouragement for dealing with stress and anxiety during Thanksgiving by focusing on giving thanks to God. It discusses being thankful for salvation, God's beautiful creation, Christian fellowship, and God's promises. Several Bible passages are cited that encourage thankfulness and finding peace through prayer. The overall message is that even in difficult times, we can and should express gratitude to God for the many blessings in our lives.
This document discusses biblical principles of giving from Matthew 6 and 2 Corinthians 9. It teaches that we should give secretly without seeking praise or reward from others. When we give generously and cheerfully, God rewards us through increased blessings, growth in character, seeing others helped, and knowing we are emulating Christ's example. True giving comes from the heart without reluctance or compulsion, trusting that God will provide for our needs and enlarge the harvest of our righteousness.
Luke 6:38 Give and it will be given to you. Sharing with others. Doing good and showing concern. Doing good without the praise of men. Amount is determined by what you have left after you give. Giving is laying up treasure in heaven.
Is church giving a function of dollars or a matter of the heart? Do we encourage people to "just give more money" or encourage them to examine their hearts? We should have hearts of gratitude, compassion and faith.
The document discusses generosity and giving. It discusses how the Macedonian churches generously gave beyond their means. Paul urges the Corinthians to also excel in generosity. While giving should be voluntary, it should match one's level of enthusiasm. The goal is for all people to have enough, as was illustrated by the poor widow who gave all she had. God blesses generosity according to one's ability.
This document discusses the virtues of generosity and how it counters materialism. It begins by defining generosity and materialism. It then examines several Bible passages about generosity, including John 3:16 which discusses God's generosity in giving his son. It argues that true generosity comes from love, like God's love for humanity. The document then discusses how believers should emulate God's generosity through giving without hesitation to meet needs in the community and spread the gospel. It asserts that generous giving leads to overflowing joy and a greater spiritual harvest, as God rewards generous people both on earth and in heaven.
The document makes a case for giving $12 more by citing several Bible passages. It argues that giving more shows love for God, must be a sacrifice, and is a test of faith. Specific verses cited include 2 Corinthians 8:8-9 on Jesus sacrificing for others, 2 Samuel 24:24 about sacrificing willingly to God, and Malachi 1:7-14 about only giving one's best to God. Romans 4:20, Luke 6:38, and Matthew 6:33 are referenced as promises that one's faith and generosity will be rewarded by God.
An exploration of the true basis and inestimable benefits of fellowship, as described within God's Word (and practised in the 1st century). Part of a 3 part series given at Laindon (Old Paths) Christadelphians
The document discusses abounding or being present in great quantity spiritually. It outlines several areas Christians should abound in according to the Bible: faith, virtue, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, love, liberality, good works, consolation, hope, thanksgiving, and pleasing God. The document encourages readers to consider what they are abounding in and exhorts Christians to abound more in the work of the Lord.

In this second sermon in the "Putting Feet to Your Faith" series, we will look at the practical command to give sacrificially and cheerfully in 2 Corinthians 8-9.
The passage discusses sowing and reaping. It states that those who sow sparingly will reap sparingly, while those who sow bountifully will reap bountifully. People should give cheerfully, not under compulsion. God can bless believers with abundance so they may do good works. God provides for those who sow seeds and gives to the poor, and his righteousness endures. God will multiply the seeds believers sow and increase their righteous harvest.
The document discusses the biblical reasons for tithing and giving offerings. It explains that everything belongs to God and we own nothing. It encourages giving cheerfully, generously, sacrificially, and selflessly. The document cites several biblical passages about how God rewards generous giving and how even small gifts from those with little can mean a lot to God. Overall, the document promotes biblical financial support of churches and ministries through the practice of tithing 10% of one's income and giving additional voluntary offerings.
Part 1 of a 3 part series on stewardship. This sermon focuses on the Old Testament pattern of giving. It will shed some light on what tithing really is about.

5. GOOD STEWARDS
Give (Luke 6:38) Give, and it will be
given to you. A good measure, pressed
down, shaken together and running
over, will be poured into your lap. For
with the measure you use, it will be
measured to you.
6. 2 Cor 8:1-6 NIV
And now, brothers and sisters, we want you to
know about the grace that God has given the
Macedonian churches. In the midst of a very
severe trial, their overflowing joy and their
extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. For I
testify that they gave as much as they were able,
and even beyond their ability.
7. 2 Cor 8:1-6 NIV
Entirely on their own, they urgently pleaded with
us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the
Lords people. And they exceeded our
expectations: They gave themselves first of all to
the Lord, and then by the will of God also to us.
So we urged Titus, just as he had earlier made a
beginning, to bring also to completion this act of
grace on your part.
8. 2 Cor 9:6-9 NIV
Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also
reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will
also reap generously. Each of you should give
what you have decided in your heart to give, not
reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a
cheerful giver.
9. 2 Cor 9:6-9 NIV
And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that
in all things at all times, having all that you need,
you will abound in every good work. As it is
written: They have freely scattered their gifts to
the poor; their righteousness endures forever.
10. 2 Cor 9:10-11 NIV
Now he who supplies seed to the sower and
bread for food will also supply and increase your
store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your
righteousness. You will be enriched in every way
so that you can be generous on every occasion,
and through us your generosity will result in
thanksgiving to God.
11. 2 Cor 9:12-15 NIV
This service that you perform is not only
supplying the needs of the Lords people but is
also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to
God. Because of the service by which you have
proved yourselves, others will praise God for the
obedience that accompanies your confession of
the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in
sharing with them and with everyone else.
12. 2 Cor 9:12-15 NIV
And in their prayers for you their hearts will go
out to you, because of the surpassing grace God
has given you. Thanks be to God for his
indescribable gift!
13. Hebr 13:5 NIV
Keep your life free from the love of money, and
be content with what you have, for he has said, I
will never leave you nor forsake you."
