• #2: Hi, Thank you to Mindy for initiating a series of webcasts for FCS. I look forward to participating on a regular basis because educators have so much to share with each other. Just to let you know a little about me, I have always been interested in technology as means to improve communication. I attended the very first podcamp held in New York City and then Atlanta. At one time the buzzword was podcasting. In 8 years the landscape has changed and the rapid acceptance of mobile technology has made it possible for anyone to podcast with the click of an upload button. I started at Creek View as a computer lab assistant 10 years ago. I used to train people on computers back in the days when they actually had to learn a little code. It was a painful process and there was a lot of resistance. Why? Because it didn’t make life a whole lot easier. Fortunately, those days are behind us and many innovations have evolved and become easier to use and apply in the classroom. Wikis are one such animal so let’s get started. I know you are all planning to walk away from this session as newly dubbed wiki experts ready to implement your first lesson on social responsibility on the web tomorrow.
• #3: In a hurry to catch up? Many of you are probably here because your job depends on it, and it really does! New teacher evaluations make technology integration an imperative and not an option. Rest assured, that using a wiki is both easy and addresses many of the teacher technology standards you will need to create a connected classroom from in the inside out.
• #4: I’m interested to know what parts of the county you’re from and would like you to try out the whiteboard tools available on this screen. Just choose an icon, text tool or marker and share a close proximity of your location. Thank you! I saw this on a recent elluminate session and thought it was a great idea. • #5: Here’s a cluster of words surrounding the many uses for a wiki. In short the wiki is a website and it’s up to you and your students to make it a living ,breathing document complete with the pulse of the classroom evident to anyone who sees it.
• #6: Teachers, you recognize this face, only it’s your students and they are hungry for knowledge. They know you have it and some of them will pester you until they get fed. Others will give up trying and we don’t want that to happen. The trouble is there is only one of you and 20-30 of them. So how do we use wikis to address the hunger for knowledge and meet the needs of students who require both intervention and extension of some sort? I’m sure my next statement will come as no great surpirse…it takes planning!
• #7: Like everything you plan, you must consider the primary purpose for your project. Who will be your audience? What expectations will they have and how can you meet them? The easiest way to begin is to come up with a basic them and a name. This will help give your tasks focus. How can you make it easy to get around? Will it be public or private? What about the PRO option? Worth it? Create a folder to store all of your wiki content. Inside make sub folders for documents, images, and multimedia
