To successfully implement large-scale open educational resources (OER), it is important to determine whether to build new materials or adopt/adapt existing ones, involve all stakeholders in the process, and identify available support resources. Proper licensing of materials must be maintained and sharing processes within and outside the institution need to be established. An update strategy and structures to support maintaining materials are also key. Data on cost savings, student success, feedback, and other metrics should be collected. Patience is required as converting to OER is a long-term process.
