College athletics departments and sports teams have gotten stale. While you could argue there have never been more fans engaged, revenues are down and gouging is up. It's time to think about new ways to drive revenue.
This presentation, originally created in 2013, provides four opportunities to drive new revenue streams at your organization. Results may vary at each school or team, but the concepts are real and will work.
I spend my time making sure technology can help support programs like those presented. I cannot force schools and teams to adopt these programs, but I hope they can be used as a think pad for sports professionals as you look to solve the increasing problem in our space.
This document provides an executive summary of a capstone project analyzing the return on investment of playing club soccer in relation to receiving an athletic scholarship for college. It first explores the rising costs of attending college to show why athletic scholarships are pursued. It then reviews literature on the physical/time demands of student-athletes and the relationship between club and high school soccer. The analysis uses surveys of collegiate soccer players to determine if club soccer experience increases chances of receiving a scholarship over just playing high school soccer. The results found that while some receive scholarships, most benefits are the physical, mental and social rewards of playing youth soccer.

This study reviewed publicly available institutional financial and participation reports at the highest level of athletic competition, National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I. Institutions were grouped by NCAA subdivision status, athletic conference, flagship status, football Bowl Championship Series automatic qualifying status, and several athletic expenses categories. Growth rates between 2005 and 2011 were compared in instructional salaries, tuition rates, athletic coaching salaries, and costs of instruction. Revenue theory of cost and resource dependency theory related these costs within the context of institutional identity to explicate the marketplace of athletics compared to academics in higher education. Descriptive statistics, correlations, ANOVAs, and visual representations were used to analyze the data. The study found the growth rate of total athletic coaching salaries and football coaching salaries far exceeded the corresponding growth rate for instructional salaries at a significant level in all groupings of major college sports.
