Finland has the highest alcohol consumption in the Nordic countries, as alcohol has become more affordable, accessible, and advertised. Excessive drinking causes harm to many Europeans, including over 5 million children living with alcohol-addicted parents and alcohol being a leading cause of death among young people. While moderate drinking may not be dangerous, there is no definitively safe level of alcohol consumption. Collective drinking culture and lack of effective policies have contributed to alcohol-related problems in Europe.
"The WHO`s Global status report on alcohol and health 2014 presents a comprehensive perspective on the global, regional and country consumption of alcohol, patterns of drinking, health consequences and policy responses in Member States. It represents a continuing effort by the World Health Organization (WHO) to support Member States in collecting information in order to assist them in their efforts to reduce the harmful use of alcohol, and its health and social consequences. The report was launched in Geneva on Monday 12 May 2014 during the second meeting of the global network of WHO national counterparts for implementation of the global strategy to reduce the harmful use of alcohol.
The report provides a global overview of alcohol consumption in relation to public health (Chapter 1) as well as information on: the consumption of alcohol in populations (Chapter 2); the health consequences of alcohol consumption (Chapter 3); and policy responses at national level (Chapter 4). In addition the report contains country profiles for WHO Member States and appendices with statistical annexes, a description of the data sources and methods used as well as references." http://www.who.int/substance_abuse/publications/global_alcohol_report/en/

Lincoln City Libraries provides examples of creative and effective book displays they have created at various library branches. The displays are designed to promote specific topics, genres, holidays, or community events. They highlight the importance of tying displays to monthly observances, holidays, or subjects that will broadly appeal to patrons. Examples show how visual displays that use colorful book covers and signs can clearly convey a theme even without words. The document emphasizes using innovative placement of collections and high-traffic areas to increase circulation and meet strategic goals.
The document discusses K辰nnikapina, a Finnish movement that questions the role of alcohol in society and seeks to reduce its harms. The movement's goals are to make Finland a place where people can freely choose to drink less or abstain without social pressure. It aims to break down myths about alcohol being inherently fun and normalize not drinking. The movement organizes demonstrations and events to spread awareness of alcohol's harms and criticize the alcohol industry and policies. Public opinion surveys in Finland show most people view alcohol consumption as a problem and support stricter policies and limits on advertising.

This document summarizes presentations from a session at the 5th International Disaster and Risk Conference in 2014. The session discussed integrating climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction. One presentation proposed a framework for this integration and highlighted challenges in the Australian policy context, including fragmentation and lack of implementation. Another discussed the important role of local governments in building resilience but noted they have been slow to act. A third discussed how media can both help and hinder resilience efforts by influencing policy and public perceptions.
This document discusses promoting the nutritional contributions of eggs in resource-poor settings. It notes that sub-Saharan Africa has high levels of undernutrition and eggs can help address this issue. Eggs provide high-quality protein and many micronutrients like iron, zinc and vitamin B12. Keeping chickens at the household level improves access to eggs and selling eggs generates income. The document discusses strategies like strengthening poultry producer organizations, improving Newcastle disease vaccination, and developing affordable egg storage options to enhance the role of eggs in nutrition. It advocates a multisectoral approach including public health, agriculture and economics to maximize eggs' contributions to food and nutrition security.
