Work experience: Employer: UMEME Ltd, Capital and Contracts Division (August 2013 Present) Position held: Senior Manager Technical Services (October 2014 Present) Responsibilities: Formally appointed to the role of Senior Manager Technical Services: Roles and responsibilities as stated below. Projects: Namugongo Substation 2 x 20MVA: Status Commissioned. Approximate Project Cost (USD 7.2M). I functioned in a dual role as Technical Services Support and Project Manager, responsible for project development, project execution, and project close out. I was responsible for managing project daily activities to ensure that the project was kept within the requirements for scope, time frame, cost, quality, and risk. The project was a pilot project used to establish the EPC procurement, project development and project execution processes developed by the technical services team. This project serves as a template for all future substation builds within UMEME and was successfully completed in December of 2015. Position held: Acting Manager Technical Services (February 2014 September 2014) Responsibilities: As the acting Technical Services Manager I led a team of Principle Project Engineers, Principle Quality Assurance Engineers, Quantity Surveyors and Materials Management Engineers in support of the Project Execution leg of the Capital and Contracts Division at UMEME Ltd. Development of MV Feeder Project Specification and Installation Guidelines in line with the Engineering Requirements I am responsible for the specification and measurement of performance, in terms of quality, and delivery in a transparent manner, so as to minimize disputes and poor delivery. Projects: Nagongera Substation 1 x 2.5MVA: Status Commissioned. Approximate Project cost USD 1 M. I functioned in a dual role as Technical Services Support and Project Manager, responsible for both Project Development and Project Execution. Position held: Project Manager Standards and Processes (August 2013 January 2014) Responsibilities: As the Project Manager in charge of Standards and Processes I was responsible for the establishment of standard project processes and project documentation packages. I was a key contributing member of the team tasked with the development of a Project Life Cycle Model (PLCM) for the Capital and Contracts Division (CCD) at UMEME Ltd. In addition, I have been responsible for the development of project processes, documentation templates and packages that align with the PLCM. The standards, processes and project documentation packages are implemented in all CCD projects guiding the way that projects within the division are carried out. Employer: Eskom Enterprises Generation Group Technology Johannesburg South Africa (May 2008 June 2013) Position held: Control and Instrumentation Engineer Responsibilities: Project: Unit Model Development Project - The Objective of the Project is the development of Power Station Unit Models to fulfil the requirements of the South African Grid Code Information Exchange Code. These information requirements were a prerequisite for approval of connections of generating units to the National Transmission System. In specific these models are to fulfil the requirements of Appendix 3b Unit Model document. The models cover the Turbine Governor, the boiler and feedwater systems of all the Power Stations in Eskoms Fleet. As Lead Discipline Engineer (LDE) on the project, I was directly responsible for the following: - Development of the project proposal - Technical clarifications with contractors - Negotiation of project cost and scope with the contractor - Assembling the project team - Development & Management of Project Program - Development of Test Schedules per Power Station - Execution of Tests per Power Station - Data gathering and Development of Turbine Governor / Boiler Unit Models - Submission of Turbine Governor Settings document
- 4. - Development of project methodology. Budget: The Unit Model Development Project was in excess of R32 million (Approx. US$3.2 million) Project: Matla Power Station (PS) Control & Instrumentation (C&I) Refurbishment Project - Matla PS is a coal-fired power station with a total station capacity of 3600 Mega Watts (MW) with each unit on full load supplying 600MW. The Objective of the Project was the replacement and modernization of the control systems on Units 1 to 6 and Outside Plant such that the plant can be safely and reliably operated until its end of life. As Lead Discipline Engineer on the project I was responsible for leading the completion, testing and acceptance of the following Unit 6 Activities: - Matla Unit 6 Technical Clarifications and Design Freeze - Matla Unit 6 Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) - Matla Unit 6 Site Integration Testing (SIT) - Matla Unit 6 Commissioning / Functional Testing Budget: The Matla C&I Refurbishment Project budget was in excess of R600 million (Approx. US$60 million).
