The Stephanie V. Blank Center for Safe and Healthy Children developed a research project to gather supportive data for a national pediatric hospital policy of prohibiting hitting in hospitals. The project team consisted of hospital leaders and physicians who strategically designed a pretest-posttest study to collect observational data on policy offenses from security cameras and incident reports before and after providing training to hospital employees on recognizing and preventing offenses. The project was successfully executed from June to November 2016 and involved monthly meetings to discuss research logistics, funding, publication opportunities, and qualitative aspects. Future plans include analyzing the collected data and publishing outcomes.
