I am not writing this for fun, am writing with a flame of hope that someone out there can relate to it and somehow somewhere down the road they can be encouraged. Single parents’ especially single mothers populate our recent generation but where are the dads responsible for the procreation. They are so committed to lay down have intercourse but why can’t the dads rise up and take full responsibilities of their actions? The society battles the woman for being pregnant at a young age. They brand you as a whore. The society uproars to the fact that you went against your religious principles that were your foundation as you grew. The thing is, they do not get to judge these young single mothers instead, they should learn to embrace them and be their backbone. In the African countries, we do not get the opportunities to put our children in a foster home, the girl child get to carry the blame and shame that she brought to her family. She is shunned and looked upon as an outcast. Some go to the extent of being chased out of their homesteads and they are married off to men they are not attracted to. Why do the girl child has to leave school just because she has gotten pregnant? Yet the boy child goes on with life as if nothing happened to him. I got pregnant after my first year in university, I was heartbroken, I sought refuge into another person’s arm, and in the process, I had unprotected sex, I escaped contracting Sexually transmitted diseases but I had a life inside me. Being a pastor daughter and a Sunday school teacher, it was an unbearable shame but I had to make a decision, to bear the shame and have a baby or to abort and still uphold the title with grace. I chose the rough path and decided to get a baby. They say never to marry a single mother. I won’t justify that opinion.
