Work Experience
Uni. Of Westminster Students Union/ Sales Assistant October 2015- Present
In my work in the campus shop, I had to self-manage as I was the only member of staff
in at any given time. I had to count the safe and the float at the end of each day, order
stock and deal with multiple suppliers. I also had to delegate tasks to other members of
staff and devised a unique system for everyone to use to keep track of our stock. I also
had to devise a promotions campaign in order to increase our sales. This is while dealing
with over a 1,000 students a day and making sure they receive excellent customer
service. My other responsibilities include opening and closing the shop, promotion and
maximizing sales and dealing with clothing orders. I also had to communicate between
the other members of staff, our supervisor and our manager across different campuses.
University of Westminster/ Senior Student Ambassador Sept 2013-Present
This role involves me being a representative of my university at various internal or
external events. I worked at a number of open days based at my university campus and
Higher Education fairs at colleges across London. At these events I have to represent my
university and also up sell it to potential students so that they want to come to my
university. I also have to be able to articulate myself clearly to a number of potential
students across different cultures and backgrounds. Since beginning my role, I have been
promoted to a Senior in September 2014 which involves me creating training materials
for new starters with a smaller team of 3 people. I also run training sessions and I am one
of the main points of contact on big event days. It has taught me how to be professional
and effective at providing training and also improved my interpersonal skills, both
within my colleagues and me and my boss and me.
Uni. Of Westminster Students Union/ Head Receptionist Sept 2015-Jan 2016
In my role as a head receptionist at one of the Universitys campuses, I supervised a team
of two other staff and dealt with an array of requests from students, university staff and
external bodies. As a head receptionist, I organized the rotas for the office to make sure it
was always staffed and was responsible for their timesheets. It was my responsibility to
order supplies, give out advice to students and deal with external requests appropriately.
I had to support my staff and help develop them so they knew what to do when I was
not present.
Primark Stores/ Retail & Cash Office Assistant June 2014-January 2016
This role is based at the flagship Primark store in Marble Arch and has taught me crucial
skills as basic fashion retail skills but also has taught me what is expected of a retail
assistant working in a flagship store for one of UKs biggest retailers. My main duty was
to be on tills, serving possibly hundreds of customers everyday and being the main form
of customer service in the store. Because of my excellent customer service and general
skill, I was promoted and trained in Cash Office from October to December 2014. This
taught me how to count cash lifts, prepare tills for the next day, and deal with lost and
found and cash up the whole store at the end of the day. My cash office involved
working in a team of 6 and a management/supervisor but also involved a lot of
independence and initiative and required me to be on my best every day as the
consequences of a little mistake were incredible. I am highly organized and I pay
attention to every detail which made me ideal for this position. I have also received
customer service training, which in my store means dealing exclusively with returns
from customers.
University of Westminster/ F.A.N Sept 2013 + Sept 2014+ Sept 2015
This role included me being a mentor for arriving new students for their first two weeks
at university. I had to organize social activities and guide a group of around 30 students.
I was their first point of contact whether their problem would be academic, technical or
personal. Essentially, I was in charge of their social settlement into university. Further,
after two years of doing this role I was promoted to being a SuperFan. This meant that I
was supervising the other FANs so my role became more managerial. I had to ensure all
the FANs were present, they were where they were meant to be and also provide
support for them. If they were struggling I was their first point of contact and had to
ensure that they were dealing with the role well, especially emotionally. I was also a
point of contact for the academics so I had to make sure both the new and current
students and the academics were well integrated.
Home Fundraising/ Fundraiser July 2012 August 2012
I was part of a fun, professional team that challenged me to break outside my comfort
zone and inspire people to make a difference through charity donations. It was also very
physically demanding as it involved 5 hours of walking at a fast pace to make sure I hit
my target of doors knocked a day, which were reviewed daily to make sure my
performance was going above expectations.
WH Smiths/ Sales Assistant Oct 2010 Nov 2011
In my role at WH Smith at Manchester Airport, my main responsibility was serving at
the tills and dealing with stock from the main store and from others around the airport. I
used my initiative to make the most of my time while at work, through helping
customers or putting out stock while the store was quiet. This made me comfortable to
work in a chaotic environment and through this experience I learnt to deal with language
barriers and busy periods in a calm and productive manner.
