AUTHORS
NOTES
GOALS
Identify the parts of an authors

note and their purposes
WHY WRITE AN AUTHORS
NOTE?
Authors notes provide writers
with the opportunity to discuss
their intentions and talents.
Readers can identify the level of
success a writer has had with
their intentions and use of
techniques.
1. IDENTIFY WHAT THE PIECE
IS
Genre, form, etc.
2. STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
What is your intended meaning?

What were you trying to do with

the piece?
Who is the intended audience?
3. DISCUSS PROCESS.
(MAJORITY OF A NOTE)
What inspired this piece?
Assignment? Writers notebook?
Inciting moment?
How did you develop the piece?
What steps did you take?
What techniques/tools did you

use?
How have you revised the piece?
4. FUTURE POSSIBILITIES
Authors feelings about the piece
Is it complete?
Are there areas in need of more

work?
What could this piece inspire in
you?
How does this piece represent
your views on the world or writing?
