The story
Leo takes Jack and Mona on the ferry.
Language Practice  Asking if guests are comfortable
Here are some examples of questions to use when asking if guests are comfortable. The responses are also
included. Read them out loud.
A: Are you comfortable?
B: No. Not really. Would it be possible to change seats? The sun is in my eyes.
A: Can I get you anything?
B: Yes please. Could I have a cold drink?
A: Is there anything else youd like?
B: No thanks. Im fine.
A: Do you need anything?
B: Yes. Could you please tell me the best way to get to the museum?
Language Practice  Explaining places of interest and indicating sights
Below are some other examples of how you can indicate places of interest. The first group of sentences use the
first conditional. If is used with will or can and the present tense. The second group use the phrase over there.
Read them out loud.
If you look on the left, you can see the river.
If you can see across to your left, you will notice the national park.
If you look up there on the right, you can see the temple.
If you look over there behind the bridge, you can see the market.
Over there, on the left, you can see the gardens. Thats where they have the annual festival.
Over there, on the right, thats the art gallery. Thats where well go tomorrow morning.
You can see the lake over there, in front of the hotel. Thats where they have the boat races.
Over there, behind the sports arena, thats the concert hall. Thats where well go tonight.
