 The "Lake Isle of Innisfree" is a poem written
by William Butler Yeats in 1888. The poem was
published first in the National Observer in 1890
and reprinted in The Countess Kathleen and
Various Legends and Lyrics in 1892. One of
Yeats's earlier poems, "The Lake Isle of
Innisfree" was an attempt to create a form of
poetry that was Irish in origin rather than one
that adhered to the standards set by English
poets and critics.

 The Lake Isle of Innisfree is a real place off
the coast of Ireland. It is not inhabited and
is in Lough Gill in County Sligo. The lake is
5 miles and is very small. Yeats would go
to Sligo as a child on vacations, so it was a
good memory for him. It is a quiet place.
Think of a lake you might know and love, a
woodsy place where you can hear the frogs
and birds, a place to get away.

POET
William Butler Yeats (1839-1922), an Irish poet
and dramatist, did much to shape Irish
literature in the twentieth century. Apart from
his contribution to poetry and drama, he was
one of the founders of the Abbey Theatre. He
received the Nobel Prize for Literature. He
also wrote the introduction to the English
translation of Rabindranath Tagore’s Gitanjali.

= The language used in the poem is
simple,with a lot of imageries,aliteration and
onomatopeia.

IMAGERIES IN THE POEM
a.”And live alone in the bee-loud glade.”
= It tells us that the glade is full of the buzzing sound
of the bees.
b.”And evening full of linnet’s wings.”
= It is the mental image we have of the sound of
flapping birds wings.
c.”where the cricket sings.”
= It helps us to visualize the night time frequinted by
the shrill sound of the cricket.

 Visual sense: Visual sense is describe by the use

 Aural sense: Aural sense is created through the
'bee-loud glade' 'cricket sings' 'linnet's wings'
'water lapping' 'hear it in the deep heart's core'.

 Olfactory sense: Olfactory senses are simulated
through the use of the 'honey'.
 Gustatory senses: Gustatory sense created
through the 'honey'.
 Palpable sense: Palpable sense is produced by
the 'clay' 'wattles' 'veils of the morning'.

 Peace and serenity is important in our life to
get in touch with our inner self.
 Our hectic schedule, in the absence of peace
is creating mental imbalance in indivisuals
which is seen in the form of anger,
frustration, mood swings, etc . Thus a
person should always make time to get away
from the usual routine and recreate oneself .
 With peace in our lives we will live a calm,
balanced, content and a happy life

The message of the poem is that we
should spend some time in a peaceful place
leaving the noisy life of the cities and towns
.The poet is thinking of going to Innisfree
and is very tired of the noisy and stressful
city life .
We should all remove time from our
busy schedule to go to places we love or
doing things that we enjoy .
