The document summarizes the research and planning done for a proposed country music magazine in the UK. It includes:
- Researching existing country music magazines like Oklahoma, Country Weekly, and Maverick to identify codes and conventions like plain backgrounds, singers as the main focus, and colors like black, white, pink and red.
- Noting that most magazines are American and the researcher wants to create one for UK audiences to fill a gap, as country music is more prominent in the US.
- Identifying potential target audiences as female, 18-35 year olds interested in country music, outdoors activities, and social media.
- Researching popular country singers both in the UK and US that could be featured.
This document analyzes and summarizes the contents pages of the magazine "Country Weekly". It describes the layouts, color schemes, images and sections included on three different issue contents pages. Key aspects summarized include the use of red text for article titles and images of artists on the left side to highlight featured articles. The target audience is described as mature, between 18-45 years old, based on the styles and sections included on the pages.
This document contains the results of a questionnaire about music magazine preferences. Key findings include:
- Most respondents were between 15-24 years old.
- The majority listen to music daily and want to see interviews, gossip columns, and reviews in a music magazine.
- When choosing a magazine, over half said the artist image on the cover attracts them most.
- Respondents preferred the layout and colors of the Oklahoma magazine cover over Country Weekly.
- Most were willing to spend £1-£2.50 on a magazine.
The analyst concluded the magazine should target 15-24 year olds and feature interviews, reviews, and artist images on the cover based on respondents' preferences.
In his preliminary task, the author gained confidence using Adobe Photoshop and learned the proper conventions for magazine cover designs. He understood how to effectively position sell lines and choose images that conveyed his ideas. Creating the final product helped him learn how to design an entire music magazine that followed standard conventions, including fitting covers, backgrounds, and using Blogger to publish his work.
The document discusses the learning experience of creating a media product. It summarizes learning how to use Adobe Photoshop and Prezi software. It also discusses learning photography skills like using different cameras, camera angles, and how to take clear product shots and portraits. The document then analyzes three test product shots taken - a full body long shot, a stereotypical country outfit shot with an unprofessional background, and a close-up facial expression shot that did not fit the desired medium shot.
The document discusses how the magazine Highway to Country addressed and attracted its audience through design elements. The front cover uses a question as the title to pique curiosity and features an artist smiling and leaning forward to engage readers. Inside, the contents page uses orange and brown coloring consistent with the country music genre and features images and article names on the right side in a layout similar to other music magazines. Page numbers are blue to match the front cover title. A double page interview spread uses a traditional three-column text layout alongside images and colors the questions green and answers orange to clearly distinguish them while linking to design elements on the front cover and contents page.
American Media Inc. would be well-suited to distribute my media product because it owns Country Weekly magazine, which served as inspiration, as well as eleven other magazines. American Media Inc. achieves large magazine sales and develops brand identities through associated websites. By using this institution, my magazine would become well known and have its own brand identity, just as Country Weekly has established itself differently from OK magazine.
This document discusses how the media product of a country music magazine front cover, content pages, and double page spread both follows and challenges conventions of real country music magazines.
The front cover uses a medium long shot of the artist with a plain white background, following conventions while standing out through the camera angle. The content pages include three related images and follow common layouts, colors, and positioning, while uniquely displaying three articles. The double page spread includes multiple images and an interview format, challenging other spreads while maintaining similar positioning and colors in line with the magazine's overall scheme. In various ways, the design draws from real magazines but adapts elements to distinguish the media product.
The six front covers of Country Weekly magazine all feature typical conventions like a dominant main image of a solo country music artist at the center making direct eye contact. This draws the reader in and connects them to the featured artist. Most of the artists depicted are male, reflecting the larger number of male versus female country music stars. The costumes shown emphasize the genre, with males in shirts, jeans and sometimes cowboy hats and females in simple dresses using earthtone and blue colors. Together these consistent elements across the covers attract readers who are fans of country music.
In this image of Lady Antebellum, a country music band consisting of Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley, and Dave Haywood, the three band members are posed in a pyramid formation with Hillary in front as the lead singer. Hillary wears all black, suggesting she is strong-willed and dominant as the frontwoman, while Charles and Dave wear other colors but also include black to show they are part of the same band. The different colors also reflect each member's unique personality.
This contents page is from Country Weekly magazine. It features a large image of Glen Campbell, who is the subject of the cover story. Speaker: Aalok Sonawala
The SWWE Regional Network were very pleased to welcome Aalok Sonawala, Head of PMO, National Programmes, Rider Levett Bucknall on 26 February, to BAWA for our first face to face event of 2025. Aalok is a member of APM’s Thames Valley Regional Network and also speaks to members of APM’s PMO Interest Network, which aims to facilitate collaboration and learning, offer unbiased advice and guidance.
Tonight, Aalok planned to discuss the importance of a PMO within project-based organisations, the different types of PMO and their key elements, PMO governance and centres of excellence.
PMO’s within an organisation can be centralised, hub and spoke with a central PMO with satellite PMOs globally, or embedded within projects.
