This document provides hair care tips to prevent thinning hair. It recommends using heated styling tools and products in moderation to avoid damage. It also suggests allowing hair to air dry when possible instead of vigorous towel drying or blow drying on high heat to prevent moisture loss and damage. Frequent chemical treatments like perming or dyeing can also contribute to hair thinning by damaging hair fibers. Adopting safer hair care practices can help preserve hair thickness and prevent hair loss.
2. Hair equipments, styling products and even regular
shampoo and conditioner, when used excessively
and without protection (such as a heat-protecting
serum), can predispose thinning hair, and therefore
more susceptible to breakage.
One may notice thinning hair because the strands
have become wispy with damage caused by heat
and chemicals. To avoid this, use heated styling
tools and products in moderation.
3. The less you subject your hair to
heat, chemicals and physical
stress, the better. Heat can lead
to moisture loss.
When you shower, water gets
absorbed within the minute
spaces of the hair fibers. Upon
blow drying, all that moisture
heats up and expands, and this
pushes the hair fibers apart
leaving open spaces. Those
spaces make hair weaker and
more susceptible to damage and
breakage. Curling irons and other
hair care devices that produce
heat are culprits of this.
4. After you shower, rather than vigorously rubbing your
hair with a towel, just wrap it inside to absorb some of
the water before you blow dry. And when you do have
to use a hair dryer, use a low setting and keep it a few
inches away from your hair. Or better yet, just allow it
to air dry as much as possible in order to prevent hair
damage. Avoid tight hairstyles. This can damage the
hair follicles where the pressure is exerted. Damaging
the hair follicles initiates the onset of hair loss or
alopecia.
5. Frequent perming, straightening and dyeing can all
contribute to scalp problems, thinning hair, and hair
loss, too. The chemicals involved often damage hair
fibers, making them more fragile and likely to break.
The fewer hair treatments you get the better. Applying
gels and other styling products might help hold
strands of hair in place, but it makes them prone to
breaking as you style your hair and brush it later.
Rest assured that these safe hair care practices will
all be worth it in the end; they are bound to
prevent experiencing hair loss or baldness. After all,
your beautiful, healthy hair will reflect the measures
you took to preserve its glory.
