This document discusses strategies for teaching higher order thinking skills in social studies classrooms. It describes several activities teachers can use, including Taboo, where students describe key terms without using common associated words, developing deeper understanding. Opinion Corners ask students to physically position themselves based on their views on different issues and explain their reasoning. Mysteries present students with clues to solve a mystery together, building evidence-based explanations. These techniques encourage skills like inquiry, reasoning, and creative thinking, benefiting both student learning and teaching.

Critical thinking and Multimodal LiteracyCLARKDOMINIC1
油
Critical thinking involves analyzing one's own thinking and using theories to improve it. It has three dimensions - being analytic, evaluative, and creative. Developing critical thinking skills involves overcoming bad habits and applying standards of clear, accurate, precise thinking. Critical thinking ability is influenced by various personal and social factors. People progress through four stages as critical thinkers - from unreflective to practicing critical analysis.

This persuasive essay argues that psychology is an important field of study for several reasons. It describes a dialogue where a friend questions the value of studying psychology, claiming other fields are more important. The writer disagrees, noting that psychology has many branches that are beneficial to society. The writer gives two examples to support their argument: 1) Psychology's main schools of thought provide insights into brain function, behavior, and how people think and act, which is helpful for understanding others. 2) Psychology has provided tools that can be applied in the real world.

Debate is a process that involves formal discourse, discussion, and oral addresses on a particular topic or collection of topics, often with a moderator and an audience. A refutation or contradiction. A debating presentation is a structured and persuasive verbal argument delivered in a formal setting to support a particular position or stance on a given topic. Typically, a debating presentation includes an introduction that outlines the topic and establishes the speaker's position or argument. This is followed by the main body, where the speaker presents key points, evidence, and reasoning to support their position and refute opposing arguments. During a debating presentation, speakers often address potential counterarguments and seek to strengthen their own position by anticipating and rebutting opposing viewpoints. They may use statistics, examples, expert opinions, and logical reasoning to bolster their argument and persuade the audience. Effective debating presentations also involve clear and articulate delivery, engaging the audience through compelling storytelling, rhetorical devices, and persuasive language.
In conclusion, a debating presentation aims to showcase the speaker's ability to analyze complex issues, think critically, communicate persuasively, and engage in a respectful yet competitive exchange of ideas within a structured format.

16. Three Types of Information:
Primary, Secondary & Tertiary
17. What is information?
Information are facts provided or learned
about something or someone.
18. Primary Information
-is the original or raw data;
-is often referred to as your source.
-is usually presented with little or no analysis.
Examples of Primary Sources:
statistics, standards, legislation and company
data
19. Secondary Information
-it usually takes raw data and analyses and
presents it in a format that is easier to read and
understand.
Reports, newspaper articles, textbooks are
examples of secondary information.
20. Tertiary Information
- includes books and articles based on the research of
others;
- aims to explain research for a general audience;
- may be useful as a starting point for your research
but provide little substance to support your academic
assessment since they tend to oversimplify, rely on
too few sources and are quickly out of date;
- includes research journals and academic textbooks,
which reflect upon and discuss the implications of
results of research.
22. Authors Reasoning
Authors Reasoning is the opinion or
belief that he or she wants to persuade
readers or listeners to believe. It also refers
to why the author chose to make the text
the he way did. Each choice an author
make is used to create some kind of an
effect.

evidence he uses to back up the
argument.

types of information?

the world.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kp8fylxfzoe
Everyday, the food we eat, the resources
we have, the education we are given, we take
for granted. While you may be devouring warm
homemade apple pie, someone else in the
world may be struggling to find even the tiniest
crumb of bread.
26. According to the United Nations, poverty is a
denial of choices and opportunities. It is a violation of
human dignity. Poverty exists in numerous forms. One
can lack food or clothing. One can lack an education
or a job, to earn money to raise a family. Many times,
people dont even have a home to stay safe.
According to UNICEF, 22,000 children die due to
poverty daily. Poverty happens all over the world,
even in places you wouldnt expect.
27. In Africa, up to 700,000 children will die before
their first birthday. 45-50% of people live below the
poverty line.
In Asia, one billion people in poverty do not have
access to any electricity. Poverty even takes place in
the United States.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 16% of
Americans live in poverty, the highest rate since 1993.
28. Still, you are not powerless to help the cause.
Donate yearly to charities fighting poverty, such as
UNICEF and partners in health. Participate in food
drives. Pressure the government to take action to
combat poverty. The most influential action you can
take is to help spread the word and tell others to
get involved. Together we can all make a huge
difference in the world, and make poverty a thing of
the past.
29. What Do You Know?
1. What issue is referred to by the speaker
in the text?
2. As a learner, how can you help in making

the past?
