The current legacy system issues more than 240,000 credentials to US Merchant Mariners who sail throughout US waters. In i ts current state and with new regulations on the horizon, MMLD legacy wi ll not provide adequate support to the USCG’s National Ma ritime Ce nter (NMC). A modernization effort is underway to produce a world class credentialing sys tem for NMC and the 17 Regional Exam Centers throughout the United States. The new MM-SEAS system is a 4.8 M
- 3. dol lar effort over 3 years and will s tream l ine the NMC’s current paper based workflow a nd allow cre dentialing to occur i n an optimized manner. The MM-SEAS system is expected to save the NMC mi llions of dollars upon completion.
