This paper develops an open source tool for analyzing the effects of complex terrain on wind turbine performance. It uses finite element methods to model wind flow over terrain and simulate turbine wakes. Validation is done against flat terrain cases and Gaussian hills. The tool allows for wind analysis, terrain modeling from maps, mesh generation, wind simulation using Navier-Stokes equations, wake modeling, and optimization of turbine placement.
