SFCASA provides advocates (CASAs) for abused and neglected children in foster care. In the past year, 209 volunteers contributed 15,047 hours advocating for 217 foster youth. Without your help there is no way for us to do what we were created to do which is to inform, support and energize the Sonoma County community to create peace through active non-violence. It takes a strong unit to get that achieved. As we all know many issues affect our communities locally and nationally. Did you know Sonoma Countys racial and ethnic gap is smaller than that of the whole state of California? *(Sonoma County Human Development Report 2014) Recent alleged abuse of inmates in the Sonoma County Jail by Sheriffs deputies, the grand opening of the Boys & Girls Club in the Roseland area and community efforts to get the county to enact rent stabilization and its fight for affordable housing for its residents and homeless are just a few! The Peace and Justice Center is an essential part of the community and is bringing serious human rights issues to the forefront of the publics attention. The Peace and Justice Center of Sonoma County stands in solidarity with the community in several ways. We sponsor educational events, provide a meeting space and resources for local activist groups, publish the Peace Press (which is circulated countywide), and promote peace and justice related efforts in the community. Weve had some transition this year. Just recently we have a Center Coordinator, Shekeyna Black. She has taken on the role wonderfully and is very excited to be a part of the PJC, a great addition. Also, two new board members, Kandis Nelson founder of The Heru Network and Isabel Lopez founder of Raizes Collective. Our new editions want to add value to the center for years to come. The PJC is on track to be the hub in Sonoma County for all things peace and justice related. We will be opening our doors again for our neighborhoods Winter Blast celebration on November 14th , 2015. Well have several special things going on that evening, please stop by! We are also postponing our fall fundraiser until the spring of 2016, so look for that information soon. We are all proud to be a part of the long term staple that is the Peace and Justice Center of Sonoma County. Our hope is to revitalize our center inside and out with fresh ideas, groups & partnerships. We cant do it without you!
