McDonald's opened its first location in China in 1990 in Shenzhen. By 2008, China represented one-third of McDonald's capital expenditures in Asia, the Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa, with over 800 locations in China and 200 in Hong Kong. China is now McDonald's top growth market, with plans to have over 1,000 locations by the end of 2008 and over 60,000 employees, as McDonald's continues its global expansion.
