Departmental Overview
The Campus Shared Services Center (CSS) supports the administration of Business and Finance
Services, Information Services Technology, and Human Resources for the UC Berkeley campus.
CSS is committed to developing a culture in which employees are actively engaged in the work,
mission, and vision of the organization and of UC Berkeley.
This position is involved with developing, implementing, and/or maintaining recruitment and
other employment and sourcing programs and policies for the Campus Shared Services Center.
Provides advice and counsel to campus on employment practices, recruitment processes,
training, professional development, and other campus policies and procedures on UC
employment law and recruitment processes. Provides consultative services to the Campus units
in regard to recruitment, training and professional development, campus policies and
procedures, employment law and recruiting operations. Serves as the campus expert on the
Special Placement Candidate process and policies, which includes displaced staff and employees
in the medical separated process.
Responsibilities
RECRUITMENT MANAGEMENT
 Develops, implements, and evaluates recruitment and selection processes and practices.
 Analyzes the effectiveness of recruitment and selection strategies and procedures.
 Sources, screens, interviews and recommends candidates for multiple levels of positions
in the organization, including professional and some management levels.
 Manages the full life-cycle of the recruitment process to ensure compliance with campus
policies and procedures.
 Produce units reports measuring metrics in the areas of employment activity for the
campus.
TRAINING AND EDUCATION
 Provides guidance, assistance, and training to managers and supervisors on all aspects of
employment recruitment.
 Develops and revises recruitment procedures and instructions for supervisors.
 Serves as a resource and provides training for current and potential staff on the
application and interview process.
 Provides tools and training necessary to support a centralized employment process.
 Works in a collaborative manner with assigned business units, other areas of HR and
outside recruiters/agencies on matters pertaining to staffing needs.
EMPLOYMENT PLANNING
 Works with business units in the development of ideas and strategies to address short
and long term employment issues.
 Resolves a wide range of employment issues using skills as a seasoned, experienced
employment professional with a full understanding of employment and recruiting
practices and campus policies and procedures.
 Applies professional employment and staffing techniques and concepts in varied and
diverse settings.
 Applies campus policies and procedures in addressing and resolving a diverse scope of
staffing needs.
PROMOTION AND MARKETING
 Conducts employment advertising campaigns and programs, with campus HR
Employment Services.
 Works with external resources including temporary agencies, contract search and
internet sourcing tools.
Required Qualifications
 At least 3 years experience in recruitment, screening, interviewing, and referral process.
 Has thorough knowledge of campus policies and procedures; knowledge of functional
area and understands how work may impact other areas.
 Knowledge of or experience working in a Shared Services environment
 Has thorough knowledge of the recruitment, screening, interviewing and referral
processes as well as a knowledge of employment law.
 Must have skills associated with conducting needs assessment, providing input on
candidate selection, problem solving, effective communication and interpersonal skills.
 Understands HR processes and forms and knows campus and departmental principles
and procedures.
 Must have effective communication and interpersonal skills as well as those needed for
conducting needs assessment, providing input on candidate selection and problem
solving.
 Has abilities associated with problem identification; reasoning; ability to work with
business units in the development ideas to solve staffing issues.
 Able to conduct complex analyses and develop recommendations.
Education/Training:
 Bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training

 Salary commensurate with experience.
