Annette Binder gave a craft talk at SUNY Fredonia where she emphasized focusing on character development over plot structure in writing by discussing her short story collection Rise. During her talk, Binder read from one of the stories and demonstrated her approach of deeply connecting with characters by inhabiting their perspectives. The audience came away with insight into Binder's process of bringing surreal characters to life through intimate authorial engagement.
