The rapid growth of free to play mobile gaming has brought about an ever increasing level of sophistication in game design, and increased competition to retain users. Understanding proper game design has become more important then ever. In this talk, we'll take a closer look at the do's and don't for building successful F2P mobile games, from the tutorial, to the game play, to the purchase point, every aspect of design is an opportunity to win or lose a user.
The document discusses how mobile games make money through three pillars: user acquisition, engagement, and monetization. It describes the process of acquiring users through ads and organic discovery. Key metrics for engagement include retention, session frequency and length, and virality/K-factor. Games can monetize through premium, in-app purchases, or ads models. Key monetization metrics are conversion rate, ARPU, and LTV, which is predicted using the monetization or lifetime approach based on past user revenue or retention over time. The document provides an overview of analytics used to optimize the user funnel and maximize revenue.
Animation is a powerful away of communication in web design. However when misused, leads to a poor interaction. This presentation highlights how animation can be properly used when designing webpages.

This document discusses the rise of mobile commerce due to the mobile revolution. It notes that mobile usage has grown dramatically in just a few years, with over 2 hours per day spent on mobile devices. This level of mobile engagement provides opportunities for e-commerce, including making purchases, getting promotions, sharing content socially, and using location-based services. However, mobile e-commerce experiences need to be optimized for the mobile context with easy payment flows, rich interactions, and consideration of how users are constantly being tracked on their devices. Developers can explore different models for monetizing mobile apps, such as selling the app, in-app purchases, sponsorships or advertising. While competition is intense, the growing mobile market provides many opportunities.
This document discusses key performance indicators (KPIs) for soft launching a mobile game. It provides guidance on conducting technical launches, soft launches, and full launches. It outlines important behavioral and financial KPIs to measure like retention, tutorial completion, average revenue per user (ARPU), and cost per installation (CPI). The document also gives recommendations on traffic sources, geographies, and campaign optimization tactics to improve KPIs during the soft launch testing period.

User acquisition requires focusing on more than just paid channels. Free and earned media should also be prioritized for most companies. Measurement is critical for proper segmentation and return on ad spend analysis by user type. Creative testing is an important way to generate learnings and optimize user acquisition efforts. The key is to understand target users, test hypotheses about what works best for each segment, and analyze results to improve user acquisition strategies over time.

Formal Methods: Whence and Whither? [Martin Fr?nzle Festkolloquium, 2025]Jonathan Bowen

Alan Turing arguably wrote the first paper on formal methods 75 years ago. Since then, there have been claims and counterclaims about formal methods. Tool development has been slow but aided by Moore¡¯s Law with the increasing power of computers. Although formal methods are not widespread in practical usage at a heavyweight level, their influence as crept into software engineering practice to the extent that they are no longer necessarily called formal methods in their use. In addition, in areas where safety and security are important, with the increasing use of computers in such applications, formal methods are a viable way to improve the reliability of such software-based systems. Their use in hardware where a mistake can be very costly is also important. This talk explores the journey of formal methods to the present day and speculates on future directions.

Editor's Notes
#7: If cost is same, add visuals and only list price once. Put the most popular purchase for each user ahead In the UI.
#18: I could go through endless things to focus on, but I just want to point out a few.
#20: Give away less well selling items. Variations of popular items. Horse is selling well offer a pony. Users like sets.
#23: Problems with porting over from web. Not editing text to fix small screen. ¡°Next¡±, ¡°Info¡± buttons. Rewrite Tutorials. Resolution of images.
#29: We¡¯re service providers. It¡¯s not us verse them. Look how smart I am. Don¡¯t try to outsmart the audience.
#30: Possible QuestionsQ: Should we let users opt out of tutorials?A: The answer is yes and now. There is a certain minimum amount of info that should be taught with the details being optional. Force the core loop in 5 steps or less and either make more information available in another section.Q: When is a good time to get users to register?A: If the registration is incentivized than throw a reminder to register every time they don¡¯t have enough currency. If the registration is not incentivized then throw a reminder after a high score or major achievement as an opportunity for the user to brag.
