This document discusses using serious games to teach business process modeling and simulation. It explores incorporating learning objectives of business process modeling and simulation (BPMS) into serious games. Serious games can help address limitations of traditional BPMS teaching by providing immediate feedback, active student participation, and better suiting digital learners. An example game called ImPROVE is described, which teaches emergency department processes and challenges. ImPROVE allows students to create business processes, simulate them, and see results. Preliminary feedback on ImPROVE from healthcare and IT professionals was positive.

We are concerned with serious games in the sense
that these game have an explicit and carefully
thought-out educational purpose and are not

Feedback from Heathcare and IT professionals was
very positive
A new prototype is under development to

The concept for this game is now part of a master
class in our University: 3D Programming for Simulation
and Game
#3: - In particular some basic concepts of modelling and simulating business processes, such as the basic primitives used for representing and in terms of simulation the impacts of choosing certain sequencesof activities in .. Of other sequences
#5: - A business process is a collection of related, structured activities or tasks that produce a specific service or product (serve a particular goal) for a particular customer or customers.
#6: is the activity of representing business processesof an enterprise, so that the current process may be analyzed and improved.BPM can be described as the use of models representing business processes to understand, to communicate, to improve, to manage and to control those processesTo improve operating performanceTo assess alternative scenariosTo capture and record knowledgeTo support the implementation of information systems
#7: interacts with the business stakeholders and subject mater experts in order to understand their problems and needsThe analyst gathers, documents, and analyzes business needs and requirements
#8: Communication and interviewing skillsProblem solving and structured analysis skillsUnderstanding of the business model and processesPresentation and facilitation skillsProject management skillsSystems analysis and design methodologiesTechnical skills
#14: are the immediate feedback, active participation of students, learning from experience, observation of key factors in an on-the-job situation, preparation for the uncertainty of business, and the high motivation to learn created by the competitive environment \\cite{Gilgeous1996,Zantow2005,Fu2009}.
#15: - The use of games for training isnot a noveltyandeventheir use in business contexts
#16: Is a MMO business simulation browser gamePlayers role-play as entrepreneurs that have to start their own business and finally build up global corporationIn that process they have to compete with other players on the same marketplace in order to decrease their revenue, etcThey also co-operate with other player to create a joint venture to enforce their competitive power, among other things
#17: Is MMO browser game but is more general, a player can role-play as differents things from employee, to political partie, to business owner, etcLike second life they have their own currency and players can trade real money for this currency and buy things on eRepublik new world A citizen has a patch of land where they can construct various buildings, such as farms, mines, factories, storage and training grounds. Those buildings can be used once a day to produce raw materials, finished products, store materials and products, and increase the citizen's strength
#22: - In order to allow the player to model Business Process, the game includes a 3D BP editor that allow the player to model the BP using some basic primitives such as squares etc..
#23: The TDABC methodology is used to analyze the costs resultant of a set of activities or of a process, but it can be used not only to see what was the cost of those processes but also to do what-if analysis, based on historical data.
