- 11. 11 Design, functionality and ergonomics The alternative In places where conventional lifts cannot be installed due to lack of space, the Compact platform lifts can offer a solution. These types of lifts do not require a separate shaft nor a machine room. Neither is a ramp required. The platform lift can be accommodated in a 50 mm pit for flat, level entry. Alternatively, the lift can be positioned directly on the floor with a 50 mm ramp. The dimensions are very flexible, making these models especially suited for installations in existing buildings. It¡¯s not necessary to build a brick shaft construction in which to place the lift unless the weather conditions are very cold or humid.
