World Humanitarian Day is observed annually on August 19th to recognize aid workers who risk their lives providing humanitarian assistance and to promote a safer world. This year's theme was "One Humanity". BRAC chapters in several countries, including Liberia, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Philippines, and Tanzania held events to mark the day such as moments of silence, press conferences, and distributing food and shirts to beneficiaries. The Emergency Response Coordinator in Tanzania gave a presentation on the objectives of World Humanitarian Day and the World Humanitarian Summit.

Since its inception, every year on 19 August, World
Humanitarian Day (WHD) is observed to recognize he aid workers who risk their lives in order to
provide humanitarian assistance to people around the world. It is also a day for everyone to
come together and take action for a safer and more humane world for the communities affected
by crisis.
Every day, humanitarian aid workers stand on
the front lines of war and disaster, braving
tremendous dangers and difficulties to deliver
assistance to those who need it the most. This
year��s WHD was a part of the ongoing
communications around the World
Humanitarian Summit under the overarching
theme of ��One Humanity'. Among the BI
countries, Liberia, Sierra Leone, South Sudan,
Philippines and Tanzania celebrated the World
Humanitarian Day on 19 August 2016 by
undertaking different programs.
BRAC Philippines joined the world in
celebrating WHD along with ARMM and
Cotabato-based humanitarian aid organisations
and agencies working tirelessly in the name of
humanity. Spearheaded by UNOCHA, a photo
exhibit was launched in the morning highlighting
the resilience of ARMM people in the face of
challenges.
On this day Emergency Response Coordinator of BRAC Tanzania shared a presentation with
the country team. The presentation was focused on the objective of WHD and the World
Humanitarian Summit (WHS). It also highlighted BRAC��s previous responses in world
humanitarian needs and further responsibilities that can be taken.
BRAC South Sudan joined different humanitarian organisations to celebrate the day in
UNOCHA compound of Juba on 19 August. More than 20 organisations gathered there and
observed a moment of silence in memory of the deceased humanitarian workers of South
Sudan. They lit candles and arranged a press conference to share the concerns over
deteriorated humanitarian situation in the country.

WHD was celebrated by BRAC Liberia internally
at the BRAC Country Head office in Montserrado
County Monrovia with the theme ��One Humanity��.
About forty people, including employees and
survivors of BRAC humanitarian assistance and
other programmes, attended the celebration.
BRAC Sierra Leone partneredwith the Office of
National Security to observe this day.They
donated food items and WHD shirts to the
beneficiaries in the capital which included students
and staff of the Milton Margai School for the Blind.

Humanitarian works and organizations provide aid and assistance to people in need around the world. They help with relief efforts during times of crisis from natural disasters to conflicts.
