This document discusses opportunities for faculty and staff to mentor students living on campus in order to enhance student success. Surveys have shown that strong connections between students and faculty outside the classroom positively impact student retention, learning, and development. The document provides examples of faculty who have benefited from interacting with students in the dorms and suggests activities faculty could do like hosting discussions, meals, films or experiential learning activities to help students apply classroom concepts. University housing has spaces available to host these types of events.
