The document describes a simple science experiment to simulate a volcano eruption using common household ingredients. The experiment involves mixing baking soda, water, washing up liquid, and red food coloring in a plastic cup, then adding vinegar to cause a reaction mimicking lava flow. Pictures show the mixture exploding and flowing over the sides of the cup after vinegar was added, demonstrating the chemical reaction between baking soda and vinegar.
3. How it was made
I filled the plastic cup half full with water and added 3 teaspoons of baking
soda. After adding the baking soda I gave the mixture a good mix. Then I
gave a good squirt of washing up liquid into the cup. Once again I gave it a
good mix. Then I added a little bit of red food colouring. (This part was
optional but because I wanted colour, I added this in. ) Now for the last
part, I poured in the vinegar and watched it explode. For this part I had to
go outside because once I pour in the vinegar it will explode.
4. This was when the vinegar was getting
poured into the liquid
8. The Science Bit
The vinegar and baking soda added together
makes bubbles. The washing up liquid that I
added is there to trap those bubbles so it
flows over the volcano like real lava!
