This case series evaluated a protocol for selecting the implant diameter during immediate implant placement in fresh extraction sockets. 20 patients received immediate implants in the maxillary anterior region. Implant diameter was selected based on preoperative CBCT measurements to maintain a 3mm gap between the implant and buccal bone wall. Autogenous bone graft was used to fill the gap. Postoperative CBCTs found no significant changes in socket dimensions and minimal buccal bone resorption up to a mean follow up of 35 months, indicating the protocol helped preserve buccal bone stability.
This document provides an overview of nonsurgical periodontal therapy. It discusses the goals and limitations of scaling and root planing, which involves removing dental plaque and calculus from tooth surfaces. A variety of manual and power-driven instruments are described that can be used for scaling, such as sickle scalers, curettes, and ultrasonic instruments. The document also outlines how different types of periodontal cases may respond to nonsurgical therapy and notes when surgical intervention is necessary.
The document discusses several theories of child psychology and development. It describes Sigmund Freud's psychodynamic theory including the psychosexual stages of development from oral to genital. It also covers Erik Erikson's psychosocial theory and the stages from trust vs mistrust to integrity vs despair. Additionally, it summarizes Jean Piaget's cognitive development theory and the sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operational, and formal operational stages.
Gingivectomy means excision of the gingiva.
Gingivoplasty is a reshaping of the gingiva to create physiologic gingival contours with the sole purpose of recontouring the gingiva in the absence of pockets.
This document provides an overview of gene therapy and its potential applications in periodontics. It discusses how gene therapy works by introducing functional genes to correct defective genes causing disease. The history and types of gene therapy are described, along with methods of gene delivery using viral and non-viral vectors. Applications of gene therapy in periodontics include using growth factors to regenerate periodontal tissues, developing vaccines against periodontal pathogens, and enhancing host antimicrobial defenses. While gene therapy holds promise, there are also limitations and ethical considerations that require further research before clinical use.
This document discusses dental implants and periodontal considerations. It begins by defining key terminology related to implants. It then discusses the biological considerations of the soft tissue-implant interface and bone-implant interface. Next, it describes various biomaterials used for implants such as metals, ceramics, polymers, and coatings. It also classifies implants based on shape, form and surface characteristics. The document concludes by outlining treatment planning procedures for implants including patient assessment, indications/contraindications, radiographs, and surgical techniques.
Instruments play a very important role in the success of a root canal treatment therefore a basic knowledge of endodontic instruments is essential.
General guidelines exist for root canal preparation, but due to the complex and varied canal anatomy each case presents unique challenges.
A variety of instruments are thus available for this purpose.
This document describes the periodontal accelerated osteogenic orthodontics (PAOO) technique.
PAOO combines selective alveolar corticotomy, particulate bone grafting, and orthodontic forces to shorten treatment time. It is based on the regional acceleratory phenomenon where corticotomy leads to temporary demineralization and remodeling of alveolar bone. The technique was developed from earlier corticotomy-facilitated orthodontics. It results in increased alveolar bone width and stability. The document then describes the surgical technique for PAOO, including flap design and corticotomy procedures to provide access for grafting and accelerate orthodontic tooth movement.
This document provides information on microsurgery and microsurgical instruments. It discusses the history of magnification in surgery and introduces microsurgery. Key aspects of microsurgery include enhanced visualization through a microscope and less traumatic tissue handling. The document then describes different types of magnification systems used, including loupes and surgical microscopes. It outlines the benefits of microscopes and characteristics of ideal surgical loupes. Microsurgical instruments are also introduced, including scalpels, needles, sutures, needle holders, and forceps. Proper storage of microinstruments is also mentioned.

1. Supportive periodontal therapy (SPT) involves procedures performed at regular intervals to help patients maintain oral health after initial periodontal treatment. The goals of SPT include preventing recurrence of periodontal disease and reducing tooth loss through ongoing monitoring.
2. SPT consists of examination and evaluation of periodontal health, maintenance treatment such as scaling and oral hygiene reinforcement, and scheduling future visits. Regular SPT at intervals of 3-4 times per year or less has been shown to effectively maintain periodontal health and limit further attachment loss.
3. Compliance with the SPT regimen is important for achieving positive outcomes. Factors like education, simplified instructions, and positive reinforcement can help improve patient compliance.

Both surgical and nonsurgical therapy produced improvement in the periodontal health.
Treatment approach was based on the comfort level of the practitioner.
In the late 60s and continuing into the 70s and 80s, many series of longitudinal studies were conducted, aimed to document the immediate and most importantly long term clinical results following several types of periodontal therapy.
The rationale for using antibiotics and chemotherapeutics in the periodontal disease treatment is its polymicrobial nature of disease. Antibiotic use should be done cautiously in treating various periodontal infection as improper use of it can lead to its resistance by bacterial strains. Antibiotic in periodontics is a very helpful adjunct in controlling the bacteria in the oral cavity

Psychoanalysis, also known as talk therapy, is a type of treatment based on the theories of Sigmund Freud, who is frequently called the father of psychoanalysis. Freud developed this treatment modality for patients who did not respond to the psychological or medical treatments available during his time.
Freud believed that certain types of problems come from thoughts, feelings, and behaviors buried deeply in the unconscious mind. Therefore, the present is shaped by the past an individuals current actions are rooted in early childhood experiences.
Psychoanalysts help clients tap into their unconscious mind to recover repressed emotions and deep-seated, sometimes forgotten experiences. By gaining a better understanding of their subconscious mind, patients acquire insight into the internal motivators that drive their thoughts and behaviors. Doing so enables patients to work toward changing negative, destructive behaviors

Effective leaders are believed to inspire followers by providing inclusive visions of the future that followers can identify with. In the present study, we examined the neural mechanisms underlying this process, testing key hypotheses derived from transformational and social identity approaches to leadership. While undergoing functional MRI, supporters from the two major Australian political parties (Liberal vs. Labor) were presented with inspirational collective-oriented and noninspirational personal-oriented statements made by in-group and out-group leaders. Imaging data revealed that inspirational (rather than noninspirational) statements from in-group leaders were associated with increased activation in the bilateral rostral inferior parietal lobule, pars opercularis, and posterior midcingulate cortex: brain areas that are typically implicated in controlling semantic information processing. In contrast, for out-group leaders, greater activation in these areas was associated with noninspirational statements. In addition, noninspirational statements by in-group (but not out-group) leaders resulted in increased activation in the medial prefrontal cortex, an area typically associated with reasoning

Economic theory seeks to explain economic facts from the behavior of individuals. In this paper, it is argued that the type of individualism methodology (IM), the economic profession should consider, is an institutional IM which includes a structural one as a special case. It follows that the mechanism leading to individual behavior can be decomposed into a social mechanism and a decision mechanism. Moreover, economic theory and game theory have generally made too restrictive assumptions concerning interactions structures. It is argued that agent-based modeling may be a useful approach for understanding processes combining heterogeneous and situated decision rules, feed-back effects and non trivial interaction structures leading to complex systems and emergent properties.
