The students organized a week-long celebration at their school focused on moral values. Each day highlighted a different value: sharing, peaceful behavior/meditation, cleanliness, respect, conservation, and the teachings of Gandhi. Activities included sharing lunches, donating books, meditation, plays about values, thank you cards, tree planting, and a skit/song about Gandhi. The students felt the week changed the atmosphere in their school community for the better and that focusing on values had just begun to positively impact their lives.community service note
- 1. Activity that I involved is doing community services in Sabah Cheshire Home Kota Kinabalu. Sabah Cheshire Home was officially registered on 16th July 1974. The first Home in Kota Kinabalu was built and officially opened on 29th January 1983 and later the second Home in Sandakan on 8th April 2000. An Early Intervention program was introduce in 2006 in Sandakan and program on Economic Empowerment Program was set up in 2008 taking in disabled trainees to be trained in pastry skills. In this community services, we went to Sabah Cheshire Home in Kota Kinabalu in a group. These are many activities such as wipe the windows, sweep the floor, mop the floor,clear the drain, and so on. My responsible is sweep the floor, mop the floor, and wipe the windows ofmale dormitory. Although it is large, but we can finish according the time table given. First, I swept the floor and mop the floor. After that, I wiped the windows of male dormitory. Before start activities, we gathered in campus atrium at 7am and we arrived the Sabah Cheshire Home at 8am. We start activity at 8:40am and finish activity at 11:30am. After that, we had a lunch time. We went back to our campus at 2pm. Through this activity, I learn to be helpful, caring, independence and cooperating with my group members. I known the important of cooperating when we finished activities. For example, we distribute the activity among the group members. When our group members need to help, we help them without thinking any rewards. Besides, I learn to be
- 2. caring and concern to the disabled persons. This is because they are very happy and welcome to us when we went to the Sabah Cheshire Home. I know that they are needs our caring and concern to them. In addition, I learn to be independence because although they are disabled persons in Sabah Cheshire Home but they also hard to learn doing daily activities by themselves. I think very happy after doing community services in Sabah Cheshire Home. I hope this activity can be held every year to students. During free time, I will go to Sabah Cheshire Home to do community services again because I think helping, caring, concerning to others is the most importance things.
