Streamlining the Quota Process for a World-Class Sales OrganizationCallidus Software
油
Jim Parker discusses streamlining Novell's quota setting process. Novell is a global infrastructure software company with $1 billion in annual revenue. Previously, Novell's quota setting process was inefficient, inflexible, and inconsistent, involving 50 people over 4-5 months. Novell implemented a new centralized process using the TrueQuota software system. This standardized the methodology, provided automated linkages between quotas, and reduced the Americas process to under a week. The new process and system improved accuracy, flexibility, and management visibility into quotas.

DESIGNING NARRATIVE CONTENT
---------------------------------------
How can you be sure your content reaches the largest audience possible? By designing content for all contexts, that will reach your audience via any device, any phone, any laptop, anywhere.
This workshop will discuss how to create a content strategy for narrative content. We'll explore how to tailor your content, as well as your editorial workflows, for different devices and audiences. We'll use Treesaver, an open-source content layout framework to illustrate narrative content principles.
Publishing usually comes at the end of your content strategy, but by orchestrating your process for narrative content, you can ensure your stories, news, product descriptions, and more will be tailored for your audience wherever they are.
What youll learn
How to optimise workflow, production, and deployment for narrative content.
How to use the technology behind narrative content.
How to customise content for different contexts.

The document discusses the potential for universities and research in Second Life. It provides data on Second Life usage trends over time and by demographic group. It then lists over 50 examples of universities, research centers, and other organizations that have a presence in Second Life. It argues that Second Life allows for new forms of collaboration and education between institutions. Being in-world can foster real-world collaboration and impact individuals and institutions. However, the social aspects of Second Life are inseparable from research and study activities, making it an interesting area for sociological and pedagogical analysis.
The document discusses aligning three initiatives underway at a company - pricing optimization, automated price list management, and sales analytics. It notes that while each initiative on its own could help, they currently operate independently and place redundant and conflicting demands on the sales force. The proposed solution is to integrate the initiatives into a single portal and sales workbench that creates a unified user experience, eliminates inefficiencies, and aligns pricing and sales compensation strategies for mutual benefit.
The document outlines an AWS training module that covers:
- 5 modules that cover AWS history/introduction, infrastructure like EC2 and S3, security, databases, and management tools.

Surface computing is an interface that replaces the traditional GUI with touch-sensitive surfaces that allow users to interact directly using their hands and fingers instead of mice or keyboards. Microsoft Surface is one example of this technology, featuring a flat computing table where people can interact with devices by placing them on the surface. Potential uses include browsing menus at restaurants, paying bills, downloading content to phones, and organizing media collections using touch interactions on surfaces instead of traditional inputs.
The document outlines a damage control plan for the Leicestershire Police following public outrage over corruption issues. The plan aims to increase trust by educating the public on review actions, strengthening the force's image through awareness of reforms, and reeducating departments on ethics. Tactics include press statements, public announcements by the Chief of Police, and open meetings. Progress will be evaluated through private research firm reports and public opinion polls.
The document summarizes the ARROW Project, which is a consortial institutional repository solution combining open source and proprietary software. Key points:
- ARROW was funded by the Australian government to develop a repository solution for universities to store and share research output.
- It uses the open source Fedora repository software and the proprietary VITAL software developed by VTLS.
- ARROW has now established repositories at several Australian universities and provides a discovery service to search across repositories.
- Lessons learned include the challenges of multi-partner collaboration and balancing open source and proprietary software needs. ARROW is now focusing on expanding content and engaging more universities.

The document discusses skills needed for librarians, including public relations, marketing, and strategic planning. It emphasizes treating customers with respect, solving their problems, connecting emotionally, setting fair prices, and saving their time. Strategic planning involves anticipating changes and taking responsibility for change. The mission statement should guide the library and communicate its purpose.
The document discusses the role of living labs in regional development strategies. Living labs aim to promote research and development in regions by fostering open innovation, attracting investment, and applying information and communication technologies to address local issues. They stimulate social innovation by involving citizen user groups. The document recommends that regional policies shift from a sectoral to a transversal innovation approach using living labs, with coordination and pilot projects to integrate research with regional development actors.
The document describes research on developing learning progressions to support K-12 students' environmental literacy. It discusses conceptual frameworks focusing on scientific practices, principles, and processes in systems. It analyzes data from student assessments to identify patterns in understanding of topics like water and carbon cycling. Key findings include increasing student awareness over time but lack of understanding of invisible system components and constraints on processes.
The document discusses the benefits of exercise for both physical and mental health. It notes that regular exercise can reduce the risk of diseases like heart disease and diabetes, improve mood, and reduce feelings of stress and anxiety. The document recommends that adults get at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise per week to gain these benefits.

The last ice sheet to completely cover Scotland (the Devensian ice sheet) began to melt and its margins retreat about 20,000 years ago as summer sunlight in the northern hemisphere increased. Over the following 10,000 years, the average global temperature rose by 3.50C and most of the Devensian ice sheet melted in the Great Thaw. In Scotland, however, a seemingly contradictory readvance of the ice took place. Around 12,900 years ago, the temperatures in Scotland plummeted and remained low for about 1300 years. This glacial period, known as the Younger Dryas, is thought to have been caused by huge quantities of meltwater escaping into the North Atlantic and closing down the North Atlantic Ocean Conveyor.
The evidence for this readvance was first analysed and appreciated in the broad hummocky lowlands to the south of Loch Lomond and this became the type area for the readvance .
The document discusses the benefits of meditation for reducing stress and anxiety. Regular meditation practice can help calm the mind and body by lowering heart rate and blood pressure. Studies have shown that meditating for just 10-20 minutes per day can have significant positive impacts on both mental and physical health over time.

APM event hosted by the South Wales and West of England Network (SWWE Network)
Speaker: Aalok Sonawala
The SWWE Regional Network were very pleased to welcome Aalok Sonawala, Head of PMO, National Programmes, Rider Levett Bucknall on 26 February, to BAWA for our first face to face event of 2025. Aalok is a member of APMs Thames Valley Regional Network and also speaks to members of APMs PMO Interest Network, which aims to facilitate collaboration and learning, offer unbiased advice and guidance.
Tonight, Aalok planned to discuss the importance of a PMO within project-based organisations, the different types of PMO and their key elements, PMO governance and centres of excellence.
PMOs within an organisation can be centralised, hub and spoke with a central PMO with satellite PMOs globally, or embedded within projects. The appropriate structure will be determined by the specific business needs of the organisation. The PMO sits above PM delivery and the supply chain delivery teams.

#2: Different presentations have different purposes. Stand-up has to be engaging, visually and intellectually. The images have to encourage questions and instigate conversations a group activity. Online presentations are a halfway house towards a document i.e. they can carry more text, more content, more graphics, more bullet points. They are created to be read a solitary activity researched, and interpreted.
#3: But although the vehicles carry similar content, their style and design should be very different.
#4: The stand-up first.Gain or drain is a line of questioning which is simpler than advantage or disadvantage and the kids like it.
#9: An only child will often have to support two parents and four grandparents.
#10: People are better off in China than they have ever been before. Consumerism has arrived big time.
#11: There arent many cars in China but things are changing fast.
#14: Either she had twins or she married a farmer and has since moved to the city. (Or they just paid the fine!) It is far easier today to evade the family planning officials, as hundreds of millions of Chinese travel from job to job. Second and third children can be seen in the countryside. People are far less afraid of the fines to be paid for extra births and of official retribution. (Times Sept 25 2010)
#15: The better off coastal provinces are now looking at ways of relaxing the one child policy. Indeed Shanghai no longer enforces it.
#16: The dream was increasing prosperity through population control. It seems to have come true for many Chinese.
#17: The writing is still on the wall but the message is more pragmatic than idealistic. It is all about how people can improve their own environment.
#19: The classroom powerpoint sets the scene. Hopefully it starts them thinking but we need to encourage some research and further critical thinking on the subject and we need to know that they have spent some time on this. An individual exercise is ideal. With one screen and only one pair of eyes at close quarters to that screen, the design of the presentation changes. It is still limited by the resolution of the software. Detailed graphs etc are still better as hard copy (or high resolution pdfs). Answers, opinions, comments etc should be written, or at least that option should be given. We dont give marks for cut and paste, do we? The slides still should provide visual content but there will be a lot more text. If there is an element of revision on the slides then lists and even bullet points can be used. Never listen to the gurus always listen to the kids. Some kids need lists and summaries to survive. Were putting them through exams as well. The result is a step towards a document design. It has to be.
#33: The dream was increasing prosperity through population control. It seems to have come true for many Chinese.
