How To Draw The Book Cover for The Lightning Thief

- 3. 油 Things you will need 油油油 Some people think of themselves as bad artists and have no confidence in drawing. If you follow my instructions and believe in yourself, you can become a good artist. I am going to show you how to draw the book cover of the book "The Lightning Thief" by Rick Riordan. 油 You will need... 油 A No. 2 pencil A piece of paper Colored pencils (Optional) 油 A copy of "The Lightning Thief" (to guide you)
- 4. Step 1 油油油 Begin by drawing the golden text at the top of your paper. Remember to draw it in its ancient style. You should also include all the curved ends of letters you see on your "guide book's" title.
- 5. Step 2 油油油 The next step is to draw Zeus' Bolt shooting down from the sky (Zeus' Bolt is a weapon owned by Zeus, the Greek god of the sky in this story). Start the bolt a little to the left of the "L" in the title you already drew and move your pencil in a southeast direction, getting thinner as you go. If you need guidance, look at the picture in Step 1. Near the bottom, the bolt splits into three bolts, and then more miniature bolts. Don't forget to add this minor detail.
- 6. Step 3 油油油 The third step is to shade in the sky in the background behind the title. The higher up the sky is, the darker you shade. Here's a little tip on shading in the background. If you want to shade lightly, barely press your pencil to the paper and let it move freely. If you're shading dark, press your pencil to the paper harder, but not aggressively. Don't rip your paper! Once again, you can use the picture in Step 1 or your "guide book" to help you.
- 7. Step 4 油油油 After you've completed Step 3, the next step is to draw the Empire State Building in the background. Make the tip of the Empire State Building be overlapped by Zeus' Bolt like on your "guide book". The sky around the bolt should be somewhat illuminated by the Bolt's electricity. You can make the sky lighter around the bolt by erasing some of the shading you did. Also include the smaller buildings by the Empire State.
- 8. Step 5 油油油 Continuing with the text, now it's time to draw the author's name at the bottom of your paper. It has the exact same style as the title, so it should be an easy step to complete, as you had practice with the title.
- 9. Step 6 油油油 Now it's time to draw Percy (the main character holding a sword). You should start with the back of Percy's head, as it's the topmost part of his body. Start by drawing his hair. Make faint lines at different spots in his hair to represent texture. Make a slightly darker line in the middle of his hair as the part in his hair. Next, draw his shirt and little wrinkle lines you see on your "guide book". Then, draw the arms and Percy's sword, Riptide. Don't forget the line that runs down the middle of Riptide. Lastly, draw the legs and Percy is complete. You don't have to draw Percy's feet, because he is standing in water and therefore, his legs are cut off.
- 10. Step 7 油油油 This is the final step - The water. This is probably the hardest step because there are a lot of different shades in the water. You may want to use the same technique you used to shade the sky in with to do this step. Finally, add any details you might have missed and erase all lines that are not needed, and your drawing is complete.
- 11. Conclusion 油油油 I hope you had fun drawing the cover of "The Lightning Thief" with my easy-to-follow instructions. I would aso reccomend that you read the book whie you have it. I read the book myself, and it was very good. If you like your drawing, you can by a frame at a local craft store like Micheal's and hang it on your wall.
