An idea map or mind map is a diagram used to represent words, ideas, tasks or other items linked to and arranged around a central key word or idea. It is used to generate, visualize, structure and classify ideas, and as an aid to studying, organizing information, solving problems, making decisions and writing. An idea map provides a brainstorming tool and way to visually stimulate and organize thoughts for designers and others. To create an idea map, determine a central topic, write it in the center and circle it, then write related ideas branching out and connect them with lines as more ideas emerge.

HOW Idea maps are used to unlock and organize new ideas and concepts visually . They can also be used to enhance an existing idea. When complete an idea map will resemble a web-like structure of your concepts and ideas connected to a central topic . To create an idea map: 2 Determine the topic or focus of your thinking. For example, how to inform San Diego residents about water conservation. Your topic should only be a few words. Write the topic in the center of the page in bold letters and circle it.
