This document discusses different types of manipulation in virtual worlds including direct user control, physical control, virtual control and agent control. It also examines properties of manipulation such as feedback, constraints, distance, pointer beam scope, hysteresis, frame of reference, bimanual interface, control location, control visibility and movement formula. Specific manipulation techniques covered in more detail include feedback, constraints of 6 degrees of freedom, bimanual interfaces using more than one hand, and ratcheting to allow for continuous movement.
