Little chip was a pebble who felt lost sitting on his cliff his whole life until he decided to walk away and find a new path. As he made his way down the mountain, he got washed away by tides and currents, losing chunks of himself along the way as he tumbled down rivers and into the ocean. Though lonely and battered, he was relieved to finally reach the beach, where he could rest despite noticing parts of himself were now missing from his journey.

Tina was a pebble that was unlike the other pebbles because she was always moving from place to place. One day, she got caught in a landslide which tumbled her down a 200 foot slope and into a river. In the river, she endured being tossed around and battered by other rocks in the fast-moving, narrow stream. Eventually, the river slowed and Tina was able to rest, though she had been chipped down to almost a speck. However, the river led to a delta where the current picked up speed again, pulling Tina into enormous waves. Though small and battered, she survived being carried in the fast river until she reached an old, slow, peaceful river where she could rest. The SWWE Regional Network were very pleased to welcome Aalok Sonawala, Head of PMO, National Programmes, Rider Levett Bucknall on 26 February, to BAWA for our first face to face event of 2025. Aalok is a member of APM’s Thames Valley Regional Network and also speaks to members of APM’s PMO Interest Network, which aims to facilitate collaboration and learning, offer unbiased advice and guidance.
Tonight, Aalok planned to discuss the importance of a PMO within project-based organisations, the different types of PMO and their key elements, PMO governance and centres of excellence.
PMO’s within an organisation can be centralised, hub and spoke with a central PMO with satellite PMOs globally, or embedded within projects. The appropriate structure will be determined by the specific business needs of the organisation. The PMO sits above PM delivery and the supply chain delivery teams.
